Patch: State Senator Lewis Calls For More Government Transparency

Now if only he and Brodeur could do some heavy lifting and get Melrose politicians to begin doing the right thing when it comes to Government Transparency! Of course that might mean rocking some boats, which they are not likely to do, but if this is anything other than a ploy for political bennies, they have a golden opportunity right here in their backyard, where there is a chronic abuse of power and refusal to obey even the most basic rules around governmental transparency.

State Senator Lewis Calls For More Government Transparency

The Office of State Senator Jason Lewis - who represents Melrose - says he could do with more transparency in state government.

On Tuesday, Lewis mapped out a plan before the Massachusetts Legislature’s Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, in hopes that newly-filed legislation could lead to a more useful Massachusetts public records law.

“Unfortunately, under Massachusetts’ outdated public records law, it is difficult, costly, and sometimes virtually impossible to get access to public records that rightly belong in the public domain,” said Lewis, according to a statement to the media.

Under Lewis’s legislation, public records would be available in a universally-accessible electronic, presumably online, form. All state agencies would have a Records Access Officer to oversee public records requests, and people could actually afford to access public records via a charges cap. Furthermore, attorneys putting forth civil cases against the government if or when public records laws get broken would be financially compensated.

Sounds reasonable, right?

Re: Patch: State Senator Lewis Calls For More Government Transparency

I'm very suspecious about his effort, knowing that he is a Democrat who sides with the leadership 99.9999% of the time. This could be a ploy to make him look less left wing liberal - anyway - we all know it won't pass the legislature - after all - this is Massachusetts - opaque and liberal!

Re: Patch: State Senator Lewis Calls For More Government Transparency

I am amazed that Lewis has the time, considering the fact that he is busy saving sharks (how many in Ell Pond, Swains Pond, and Towners Pond?) and granting undocumented ailiens Massachusetts drivers licenses (which real name, Jose A or Hose B?)Go back to South Africa you Moon Bat FREAK! If the jerk succeds, Homeland Security will require all Massachusetts residents to have a passport to fly on all domestic flights, 'cause your Mass. license will mean 'chit![Geezer]
