MM spoke out against Alderman Wright's motion to reduce unposted speed limits citywide to 25 MPH by saying that she doesn't want to give Melrose Police more opportunity to "selectively enforce" laws against minorities and "people of color".
I know this board LOOOOVVVES Monica, but this is absolutely crazy (and HUGELY ANTI-COP!) reasoning to be against an order. Where is the outrage, Melrose Messages? You guys are usually really quick on the outrage draw. I'm disappointed.
Good for MM. Of course there is profiling, and it exists in many sectors, not just police enforcement but certainly there. Not just people of color, but anyone that some have decided to target--for years it was any teen or group of teens walking anywhere. Innocent kids were (are they still?) routinely targeted, hassled, forced to empty backpacks in the aisles of Shaws, roughed up in front of the Y, etc., all for no reason other than that they were teens, all totally illegal and went on for years. Current chief has reined in a lot of the bad behavior but he isn't responsible for the bad hires and bad attitudes that have existed long before he was put in charge, or for the baseline bad attitudes of many still.
Changing the speed limit is another ridiculous thing, brought up by a Big Blowhard Nothing of an alderman just trying to get some brownie points.
She is not trying to throw MPD under any bus and is in fact a proven supporter. She is addressing a real thing, which anyone halfway awake who understands what real life is like in the 02176 and beyond its provincial little mindset knows and is concerned about.
If they do change the non-posted speed limit to 25, who is going to enforce it? the 30 mph rule is not even enforced.
I am an old, white, middle class resident who drives a nice car and have been pulled over by Melrose police officers in the past on Bellevue ave for blowing through stop signs. Please don't give me this bull that the police are racially profiling people they stop!

Howard St., Franklin and Upham are treated like Rte. 1. After the fatal accident on Howard police were out in force but reducing the limit will help keep the streets safe in these residential neighborhoods.
Racial profiling as a reason to oppose this seems like an over reach.
If they do 25mph, they need to designate certain streets as 30mph or above. Lebanon, Howard, Upham, Franklin, etc. Have 99% of the streets as the new law, and leave the few exceptions at 30mph. I think that is very "reasonable."

According to today's The New Yorker, Comey reopened the case against the wishes of AG Loretta Lynch. Not surprising she would try to intervene. The minutes of her meeting with Bill Clinton on the tarmac has also been requested under the Freedom of Information Act.

Weiner, and involve his communications with a 15 year old girl. Weiner's estranged wife Huma Abedin, one of Clinton's advisors, announced in August that she was separating from Weiner after years of his online sexual activity with other women. The investigation is to determine whether Weiner's communications with this girl are criminal.

You need to back up a little. A different investigative team was looking at the computer in regards to the alleged behavior of Weiner with a 15 year old girl. They found some stuff on it that they thought might be related to the prior investigation so they contacted the team that handled the other investigation, who brought it to the head of the FBI. He wrote the letter because he was villified for saying there was no evidence, or not enough evidence of any wrongdoing to proceed any further. He was put into a difficult spot because if he waited until after the election to announce it it would have looked like he was hiding something. Until the emails are released there is no way anyone, especially you, can know what they say. For all anyone knows, there may be absolutely nothing there that indicates any criminal activity by Clinton. In this instance, stupid is assuming there is before you have any facts. If you recall, the prior decision found no criminal activity by Clinton, merely bad judgement, so to call it a criminal case is inaccurate.
Trump admitted he lusted after Ivanka, "if she wasn't my daughter, I'd date her". He agreed and allowed sleazy talk show host to objectify his own daughter, too. Now his 3rd wife (who was a high class call girl) will prostitute whatever is left of her dignity to campaign for "the Donald" !
