Gail and The Trumpsters

Jen Lemmerman and Kate Lipper Garabedian flushed their reputations down the toilet. JL and KL-G are acting like true red republicans. They are are colluding and complicit with Gail and Rob. Disgusting! I voted for both of them last November and would take my votes back. Did they check with the Police and Fire Department Unions?

Re: Gail and The Trumpsters

That's correct. They are total sell-outs and were from the get-go. They are already violating Open Meeting Laws with their preplanned votes (GI always did and was proud of it). The local Dems are actually fake Dems and behave entirely like the rotten screwballs now in control of the federal govt. Nice going, young parents of Melrose, thinking you were voting for progressives! NOT!

So who did you want to win? I'm assuming Zwirko, since I can't see why there would be this kind of vitriol for any other candidate. Pathetic Sore loser! You wanted the BoA to anoint the next 15 year mayor. Two strong women decided it was up to the voters in a fair field in 2019. Vote is what it was, fair and right. Deal with it.

Re: Gail and The Trumpsters

Our local officials, almost across the board (with a couple of notable exceptions), are despicable and should be compared with the worst of the Repugs and Dems alike ruining things on the national front. They even went to the trouble of changing "Public Participation" to "Public Comment" officially this past week, because heaven forbid they appear to support the public's right to participate in its own governance here in Melrose, Alabama. They are truly despicable, including (and maybe especially) the new ones, who've already thoroughly trashed whatever credibility they might have had with their disgusting actions this past week.

And no, this has nothing to do with "sore losers," since there were few actual good candidates even running. Truly this may as well be Alabama with its regressive attitudes. Remember, it was only a very few years ago this town shielded a rapist who was savaging children right there at the Y on Main Street and on school premises for the Casey/SC-sponsored after-school program. Then the town "elders" worked hard for the next year to wipe it all away with their kumbaya session that Rob held at Mem Hall, and lots of press coverage of the Chamber and officials protecting the officials who let it all happen, with 14 years of children being raped right under their collective noses. They went right about the real business of their Victorian Fair and pretended that that little blip of horror had happened somewhere else. Roy Moore would have had a field day here in Melrose, sadly.

The hypocrisy is rank and all-pervasive. Those huffing and puffing the loudest about issues are typically the ones projecting the kinds of stuff they are often directly guilty of doing. The bloviation by aldermen Thursday night was just one example of a long history of gilded BS from these swamp creatures. It would have just killed them to second a motion (something that's done routinely by boards made of actual civilized individuals unlike ours!) of Monica's to allow the possibility of considering a special election for a full board vote. Heaven forbid the public should have a chance to weigh in. The patronage deals had obviously already been made, and these ignoble alderpeople didn't want anyone from the public to mess those up.

It's nice when the crazies just come right out and identify themselves. Your worldview is deranged and conspiratorially focused. It is helpful that you make it clear you are not to be taken seriously off the bat with your insane ramblings. I appreciate that.

That said, the motion for a special failed to get a second because it consisted of two whole sentaces (without time frame mentions or definitions of what an "acting mayor" is). And had almost no chance of being passed for home rule by the statehouse by 2/4. It was just a way for MM to get her cronies down there to bloviate. One was so Ill informed that he though Gail would be mayor for years and years even though she said she won't run in 2019. If MM actually wanted consideration, she would have redlined some charter changes or at least made a more fully formed special order. It was all for show, and you fell for it.

If you really want a special elections, you got as close as possible with the vote. The aldermen showed good sensibility in choosing someone who wouldn't run in 2019.

Re: Gail and The Trumpsters

The originator of this post gets the Bozo the Clown Award. Additionally this individual is clearly one of the freaks who spoke during the public participation portion of the BOA meeting. That crowd was straight out of the bar scene from Star Wars. Talk about white trash. I bet combined they are 5 years behind on their mortgage payments, there isn't a full lawn between them and their houses are all in desperate need of a paint job...but they know how to run a City. Try managing your households first. BTW, you douche bags are the republican party in Melrose and voted for Trump...which is why you support MM. MM wouldn't win a race if her parents were the only people who voted...unless she promised to move out of their basement. Lets face it, outside of Melrose Messages you losers are totally irrelevant. Honk Honk, see you in 2019.

Re: Gail and The Trumpsters

You are truly disgusting. You're revolting vitriol says more about you than it does about your targets. In any case, as usual, you have completely danced around the real point, which is that there ought to be a special election for a term of this length. Unfortunately, even though the charter is terrible flawed, even though the voters were asleep at the switch (again) and approved it as written, and even though the charter review committee also missed it, it's the rule we now must live by. There's enough blame to go around if you're willing to be honest, but the person chiefly responsible for the position in which we now find ourselves in this particular case is Dolan, with his refusal to resign before the deadline. If he cared about Melrose as much as he says he does, that's what he would have done. The only option we have now is to change that section so that we would have an "acting" mayor for a period not to exceed 1 year.

Agreed regarding this being the fault of Dolan. He definitely should have stepped down prior to the start of his 3rd term. It was a selfish move on his part that left a stain on his legacy a bit. Bad look heading out of town that way. It put the Aldermen in a hard spot, too. I'm sure most would have preferred a special election the legal way without muddying the waters regarding "acting" mayors and the time frame of a hastily convened special election. They performed their duties and chose their president.

Any changes to mayoral succession should be done via charter change and not "Special Rule" that circumvents the charter and can lead to some legal issues. That said, the whole charter was up for review less than a year ago, and no one - not a single person at the charter review committee meetings, not MM at the Alderman voting sessions - had a problem with having the cutoff being the beginning of the 3rd term. Leads me to believe that it isn't really much of an issue. Also, the 2019 election will be treated as a special election, so whoever wins in 2019 will be sworn in the next day and not in January. That means GI's term will be a total of 21 months. It really isn't that crazy, if we are being honest. If a special needed to be convened, the earliest it could occur as a vote would be June. That means the difference between the "period not exceeding 1 year" and the time the person who won the special taking office would be 4 months. I can't see 4 months really mattering at all, in the scheme of things.
