It’s interesting the water and sewer rates increases will be recommended on April 30, 2019. Four weeks after the special election. Apparently the city doesn’t want residents to be thinking about the increase water& sewer rates.
What has become "normalized" here isn't necessarily what would be considered normal in an alert, engaged population that believes it is perfectly normal to question authorities and hold them accountable. There are other communities that do this. Melrose very simply does not. It has become a place where the majority of the "engaged" citizenry are the sycophants who gush and swoon, checkbooks in hand, for and about their officials. This is not "normal," and it is definitely not the mark of a healthy culture.
Whenever water and sewer rates are discussed, it's guaranteed that there will be a couple of very informed citizens who are likely to try and bring some common sense to a whole lot of blathering officials who know they can get away with praising themselves and their processes instead of doing their blasted job.
The Mwra is a wholesaler of water/sewer to each of the communities it serves.
It’s also a none fact the rates the same for all its just are city over charging us.
It is municipal finance. Melrose gets the water from the MWRA and then Melrose sets it's own rates for the city. All of the MWRA cities do this which why there is such variation in water rates across cities.
Go to the meeting or read some local documents if you need proof.

I’m talking about the strained attempt to make an issue out of the fact that the water and sewer rates will be discussed at the required annual timeframe, which happens to be after an override.
We need some of that here. Previous poster was telling no lies. The sycophants, I mean citizens, here want to unquestionably open their checkbooks because their celebrity alderMAN, SC felon or city hall clique tells them to.

But yeah, tell me more about how the yes voters were mean and called you guys names.
Hyporcits. It's amazing that your stubborn lack of self-awareness persists.
Still complaining I see...oh, sorry...putting forth your brand of critical thinkingš¤£š¤£

The mayor announced last night that there will be zero increase in water rates, sewer rates and water base fees. There will be a $5 per quarter increase in sewer base fees. So everyone can just calm down.

Oh didn't you hear? The new call from Melrose Messages is that it is on my fair if they cut the rate by 20%. Can't win with some people.
Melrose Cares is requesting for a second time to stop the quotes. It seems we have very intelligent readers. Melrose Cares is trying to save on the messages.
I use the quote function occasionally, but there is absolutely no need to endlessly repeat entire posts, especially if it's lengthy one. More often than not, I will selectively quote an excerpt of just one sentence from a post. That can give some clarity to a response that may be missing if no one knows exactly what I'm referencing. It only requires the slightest effort to delete the rest of the quote, and I don't get why people don't do that. Seems like a no brainer to me.

The city’s picking our pockets clean and the $$$$ just keeps coming in.
$20:00 yr x the number of homes/users =?
Example: $20:00 x 10000 = $200’000.
The city’s taking in more money what’s it paying for?
When the w/s enterprise fund exceeds 1.5 million.
Just saying!
Would you rather the city have no money for when large scale infrastructure work is needed? You saw what happened with the water main break in Winchester, right? It's important to have funds at the ready.
