The Patch released an article this week about the Bill Forbes Scholarship accepting applications for the 3rd year. The scholarship has already awarded $20,000 to MHS seniors who are members of military families or have been actively involved with the local veteran community. Another $10,000 will be awarded this year!
What a great way to honor the memory of Bill, who was a Vietnam Veteran, former BOA member, and 30 year resident of Melrose.
Alderman Scott Forbes is a retired MSgt (USAF) with several overseas deployments. His sister Julie was active duty (USAF) with an Afghanistan deployment under her belt. I have so much respect for this family and the work they do for our Melrose Vets - most of it under the radar without any fanfare.
Also, it is nice to have a feel good story on here for a change :)
Was happy to read the article too. Bill was a GREAT man who loved Melrose. He was one of the key people that helped launch so many veteran initiatives we see flourishing today.
Scott received the 2018 Veteran of the Year award from the Melrose Veterans Advisory Board, in recognition for his work & contributions with our local area vets. Like father like son.

Melrose Veterans Open Golf Tournament last September was by far the best one to date - proceeds go to the memorial restoration projects that are not funded through the city budget - organized by Alderman Forbes!
Happy to see this thread on here and its a good way to end the week =) Thanks Forbes Family for all you do for the city of Melrose!!!!

Alderman Forbes has been part of the leadership team for the upcoming Operation Trip to Washington DC - meeting with the MVMMS students during the week and helping raise the funds for students and veterans alike.
His father would certainly be proud of all the work he does for Melrose and our veteran community =)
