I don't think it's the city actually "holding the stats back". That would imply they are holding them back from the FBI reports, which would be illegal, but I do think there have been incidents that have not been reported in the media because the city/realtors don't want them publicized, and the media have been threatened with losing access at city hall if they don't go along. That's a practice that started with Dolan. Every time a reporter has done any real investigative work, they've been mysteriously "reassigned". Anyone with half a brain knows all the hype about how wonderful Melrose is is just that - hype, and not a lot of substance.

Nailed it.
You have every right to be concerned. What's going on in Melrose?
Look, it's pretty simple. Schools get votes. Public safety does not. Dolan knew that and spent years catering only to the schools, while letting public safety and dpw go right down the toilet. Add that to the fact that the pd on several occasions called him out on his bull$hit, and then he would retaliate (police study, overtime abuse accusations, not filling vacancies. He hated the pd and he was vicious and nasty when crossed, even when he was wrong. He made it personal. And here we are.
And according to the Capital Improvement Program report, a Public Safety Building is number 7 on the list of 14 urgently needed projects released today by Brodeur.

What's number 6? Library renovations.
And here we go again.
I would say this is funny, but it’s clearly more embarrassing and concerning. These political hacks are just going to wait until an officer or firefighter is truly injured or killed before they have to act. It took Neil Sullivan on the fire department losing a leg before they finally started to get new equipment. What will it take for the police to start getting new equipment? Shooting? Stabbing? Apparently we have residents who like to stab state troopers so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
