Change!

Changes coming to Lincoln!
1 new principal
4 permanent new teachers (due to the retirement of 3 veteran teachers and the addition of another 4th grade)
3 temporary teachers (because 3 young teachers are going on maternity leave)

So, the fall will bring 1+7= overwhelming change!

Re: Change!

Oh goodie, more exodus and new lousy hires!

Re: Change!

Well, if the powers that be have finally learned the painful lesson about hiring political friends, friends of friends, etc., there may actually be an opportunity for positive change next year. Again, the difference between Newton, Lexington, Belmont, Medfield and our little city is those other communities hire the best candidate rather than someone with insider connections.

Re: Change!

That's a big part of it. Another part of it is the absolutely toxic atmosphere created from the very top on down. It's systemic.

People griped at Richards when he flew the coop after one year to take the Belmont job, but let me ask - what idiot would not jump at the chance to get out of MHS and Melrose, and go to one of the top ten systems and high schools in the state? Can you say no-brainer?

Re: Change!

Of course Melrose is ranked 308 out of 318 Massachusetts school districts for average teacher pay, in front of Wendell, Hancock and eight other backwoods communities you've never heard of in Western MA. This, of course, leads to a lot of turnover with the better teachers being recruited by better paying systems.

Yep

Talk is that Patrick Della Russo's son is already hired.

Re: Change!

I won't condemn the son for the sins of the father, but Patrick Dello Russo is a slug. Check into the mess he created in Plymouth before Doughboy hired him back.

Re: Change!

Are you sure? He isn't even a finalist....From the school website:

David Brady has been employed by the Everett Public Schools for the past twenty years. He is currently the Principal of the Madeline English School. A former physical education teacher and guidance counselor, he holds degrees from Salem State University and Cambridge College. He will be visiting the Roosevelt School on Tuesday, May 13th.

Christie Harvey is currently the Assistant Principal at the Countryside School in Newton, MA. She previously worked in Chelmsford and Andover as a Special Education teacher, and in Wilson, N.C. as a first grade teacher. She holds degrees from Tennessee Technological University, Lesley University, and American International College. She will be visiting on Wednesday, May 14th.

Mary Beth Maranto has worked in the Haverhill Public Schools for sixteen years. She is currently the Principal of the John C. Tilton Innovation School, having previously been its Assistant Principal and a third grade teacher. She holds degrees from Westfield State College, Fitchburg State University, and Lesley College. She will be visiting the Roosevelt School on May 16th.

Looking at the candidates, it looks like Brady is a shoe-in: Phys-ed teacher, Salem State grad ,Cambridge College cereal box degree, he has the worst credentials...and he is from Everett, which makes him the winner here in Melrose.

Re: Change!

Dave Brady is from Melrose and used to coach the high school girls basketball team back when they were winners. He's a great guy and we'd be lucky to get him.

Re: Change!

What's this got to do with Lincoln? "Maranto was hired as the new Roosevelt principal, Superintendent Cyndy Taymore announced on May 23." Brady was not.

Re: Change!

The. Lincoln and Horace Mann schools are hiring interims for 2014-2015 . Maybe a ruse to hire them permanently . But new 3 of 5 elementary schools are again having new principals come fall. Begs questions????

Re: Change!

They admin will no doubt say this is "normal turnover", like they did last year, and most Melrose residents, who have the brainpower akin to that of a flea, will believe it. If you told them $hit was ice cream, they'd eat it.

Re: Change!

"Looking at the candidates, it looks like B is a shoe-in: Phys-ed teacher, Salem State grad ,Cambridge College cereal box degree, he has the worst credentials...and he is from Everett, which makes him the winner here in Melrose."

More to the point, he's a Hoover dad and a total Yes man. So along with the cereal box degree (perfect description--"Dr" M A another example) this one makes the ideal candidate. He didn't get Roos because Boss Lady needed heavier guns to get that ranch under some sort of control. But this Mr. Nice Guy would be a perfect "collegial" fit for Principal Perky, Blondie the Bully, BB Conman, Mimsy M and Lincoln's Door #3 Interim. Of course any of these ought to beware. Lots (most) of Boss Lady's choices decide to bail after 1 day, 1 week, 3 weeks.... The only ones still standing are the ones who just don't seem to cut it in other interviews or they're still padding their salaries and creds until they can jump.

Re: Change!

Parents should vote No on any Override. RE tax savings can pay for parochial/private school tuition.

Re: Change!

Blondie the Bully?? What elementary school would that be? HM? Hoover?
