high school laptops

My son is in the 8th grade @ the Middle School. Is it true that the high school does not offer laptops/note books to their students. I am told that surrounding cities and towns(Wakefield, Lynnfield and others) have this available. Can anyone clarify?
Thank you

No no no no no no no no no

Re: high school laptops

The school system cannot afford laptops because it wastes $ on overpriced administrators. The SPED budgeting is soaring because the kid's are traumatized by the cultures in the schools (trickle down theory in action) filled with exhausted educators who are unhappy and have no respect for their "bosses" ....who are hired/fired and leave for other districts....the SC certainly doesn't model decorum, professionalism or intelligence.... So, sorry you will have to buy your own kid's laptop... and you wonder why the OVERRIDE won't pass!

Re: high school laptops

Just imagine how many laptops could have been purchased with the foolish no-strings-attached $40,000 bonus money allocated for CT'staff and then the $10,000 CT raise. Thank the School Committee for putting the kids first.[:-?]

Re: high school laptops

Listen......Imagine.....education is no longer a vocation! Once this is understood, all else makes sense.

Re: high school laptops

Dear Imagine, will we be seeing you at the next SC meeting? Didn't think so.

Re: high school laptops

Thats only for fools like you who think their presence will somehow make an impact in the buffoonery that goes on in these meetings. The biggest impact is made in the voting booth.

Re: high school laptops

be real

yes, and until more decent people step up and run for office, Melrose deserves the government it elected (even if the kids deserve better)

You may like some of these people, and socialize with them. But until you get real and accept responsibility for voting in people who are truly bad news (like most of the SC and a bunch of the aldermen and RD), then this is on you, too. It's a small town (even if it has pretensions at being a city). Everyone knows everyone, these pols are our neighbors, and even in some cases our friends. But look at what they've done to harm the schools. If you can't muster enough concern to take a hard look, then just keep accepting this. You have only yourselves to blame for what the kids are suffering in terms of their poor education. Melrose kids are certainly as smart as well-fed kids anywhere else. But they are certainly also much more poorly educated than their peers in lots of places, including those nearby. And that has nothing to do with private or parochial or charter schools. This is only about Melrose schools and the damage Melrosians have done to them.
