Middle School Promotional BS re Racism Mandates

And why exactly are we supposed to believe this "influencer" silliness? MAAV was so effective when it came to Kicking Gingers, after all. And MAAV really stepped up about all the OCR stuff, didn't they? So did the precious Human Rights Commission, with its comprehensive violations of Open Meeting and Public Records laws to boot. All the same cast of characters that didn't do any of the right things re OCR (and all the other legal actions pending) are still in charge, and the lawsuits and complaints continue to pile up. All of this play-acting is really quite an insult to our collective intelligence and powers of simple observation. Until there are actual consequences for the evil deeds that those in power keep committing (and they are still doing it!), no one should believe one iota of this crap.

Melrose middle school expands inclusive initiative
By John Laidler Globe Correspondent July 22, 2016

"Veterans Memorial Middle School is expanding its efforts to promote a safe and inclusive environment for Melrose students. This fall, the school is launching a program to empower student leaders to become agents of positive change. Project IMPACT — Individuals Making Positive Actions Count Today — will tap the resources and expertise of the Anti-Defamation League and Melrose Alliance Against Violence. The initiative includes the league’s Classroom of Difference program, which teaches student leaders to work with their peers to confront bias and create inclusive environments. Thirty students, or “peer influencers,” will be selected to take part in the 40 hours of training by the league, which covers issues related to racism, anti-Semitism, and fighting bias. The students will also undergo training by the Melrose alliance on friendship issues, bullying, sexual harassment, and homophobia. The student leaders will then work to educate their peers through classroom presentations and awareness campaigns. Adam Azia and Chelsea Slosberg, two teachers at the school, will serve as the program’s faculty advisers. Both are participating in a three-day training program with the anti-defamation group in Vermont this summer."

Re: Middle School Promotional BS re Racism Mandates

This "Project Impact" initiative should be focused on the perpetrators. All school administrative staff, the superintendents office, the city solicitor, school committee members (especially the chair) should have to take this training.

It has been the kids, their parents and some teachers who have stepped up at great risk, and have done the right thing time after time and filed complaints with the superintendent's office when they see inappropriate behavior by educators, administrative staff, principals and city solicitor's office. they are already leaders for doing so.

After all, hasn't it been administrators, teachers, city solicitor's office who have illegally intimidated and retaliated against victims and complainants in private and in public and complainants while MAAV and school committee members stood by and did nothing or worse, supported the perpetrators?
In fact, by virtue of standing back and doing absolutely nothing at all about past incidents brought to their attention, the MAAV members should also have to take the training!

Does anyone see the problem with a non-inclusive program promoting inclusion?

30 students chosen from all the 6th, 7th & 8th graders? Let's see who gets selected.

The Irony

"Will be selected" usually means the children of staff members, children of PTO moms, kids whose parents are members of MAAV, kids of city officials, kids whose parents have connections in city government (have served on committees, campaigns , etc.) and a handful of select favorites handpicked by staff.

The process of how these kids get selected will never be explained, and the same kids will get selected for other opportunities throughout middle and high school. That is how it has always been, and will continue to be.

Re: Middle School Promotional BS re Racism Mandates

Ya think they will select some minority or SPED students whose families have been victims of racism, bullying or retaliation by MPS staffers, principals, administrators, MPS legal counsel or (less likely) students??

Naaaaah...

Are they forgetting the swastika s drawn in mms prior to Trump. Mrs wasn't as bad as the high school but it's gotten there. Open your eyes. It's right in front of your face. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem and the problems me is BC.
