Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Jealousy, bullies, unhealthy environment! That is why people are leaving. Dolan is a Donkey!!!

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Some teachers are not like they used to be! That's why children are not learning as well because it shows they don't care.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

I miss Mr Brow! The new guy wants to make headlines by arresting everyone. Bring back Brow and Stanton.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

The real question.Whats going on at the schools?

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Roosevelt school is under stress! MBM has big Balls and should of been a guy maybe she is. Can anyone tell me if she has had a sex change?

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

I don't know if MBM principal at the Roosevelt has had a sex change, but she has driven more staff out! Ms.I, Ms.M, Ms.C and now the nurse she needs to go now! Parents it's only going to effect your children when staff are unhappy.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

There's definitely a problem at the Roosevelt. The Secretary and the Nurse have been working together, under multiple Principals, for 11 years. I don't think it's a coincidence that they're both leaving at the same time. It's obvious that MBM is to blame...

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

It's obvious MBM is to blame. CT, SC and Mayor Dolan have not done a thing. Seriously you are correct there's a problem at the Roosevelt.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

I guess the problem doesn't affect any of those MEF mommies over there at the Roosevelt because, if it did, the problem would be fixed. Could it be that the MEF mommies are the ones pulling the strings from behind the scenes? We all know that whatever the MEF mommies want, they get. Other than that pesky override which they were unable able to fool most of Melrose into voting for.

I still smile whenever i think of that override getting flushed down the toilet by the realistic people in our city.

MBM at the Roosevelt is what the administration wants. MBM never returns your email, but
reads them ALL! Maybe PWL is her mentor and is teaching her the tricks too.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

MBM, has never been a principal. She was a assistance principal in Haverhill. The school only went up to 4th grade. CT has put principals in that have no experience. They need to have been a teachers for almost ten years. In some states that is the only way you can apply for the job. This is a joke, and more staff will leave the Roosevelt if you don't stop the bleeding now.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Concerned parents in the Winthrop school area. Hoping in a few years Melrose will have a new administration, mayor, school committee and principals. I pay a good about of taxes to the City of Melrose. Watching for new leadership in the City of Melrose thanks for the time.

No, the last one didn't pass either - and this was before Dolan was mayor, so I am not sure why people on this board think that the failure of the override was a movement against the administration. Melrosians have always been cheapskates and have traditionally underfunded our schools. Sad but true.

The only training PWL or CT are capable of is toilet training as they're both full $hit. MBM stands for Ms. Bowel Movement.

Not true. Melrose spends about as much per child as other schools in the Middlesex league and other communities in the area. It is also not burdened with the transportation costs for busing kids to school. The reality is that millions are spent on legal fees to defend corrupt administrators who bully and intimidate families. The School administration is too lazy and inept to follow IEPs and educate challenged students, they take the easy way out and instead. They bully and intimidate these kids and their parents when they complain about their IEPs not being implemented, hoping they will just lay down or leave the city (and some do). But others fight back against the injustice and file lawsuits, MCAD or Office of Civil Rights complaints, leading to millions in legal fees, settlements and outplacements to expensive schools. But this is the way our so called school district "leaders" wants to play... dirty. And its very expensive for the tax payers and the kids too.

You are delusional if you think that there has not been any support for the schools by its citizens and city government! The Mayor has allocated additional funding to the schools for years and years giving them millions of dollars extra beyond what they wanted. Even during the teacher union contract 3 years ago - the city gave them millions of dollars extra to pay for raised. The Educational Foundation has given 10's of thousands of dollars to the schools in grant money. The problem is - the senior admin staff are corrupt - forcing the school to pay exorbitant legal fees and for PR consulting. Also the staff hires by Taymore have been terrible while at the same time she had driven out the best of our teachers. This super has been a failure for us, the community and especially the students who need help - SPED as well as others.

Roosevelt PARCC

I hate to tell you, but the Roosevelt school just ranked 46th out of 927 elementary schools in the state in this year's standardized testing. Families are going to be begging to send their kids to that school.

And just as a reference, only 5 years ago, Roosevelt ranked 308th out of 893 in the state (in 2012). So something is definitely headed in the right direction over there.

You can check it outt for yourselves.

Your not one of those parents that still believe Melrose won best zip code. That was done by the real estate in Melrose.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

The PARCC scores are a reflection of the teachers, not the Principal. Two teachers that administered that test, SM and NI, did not return to the Roosevelt this year. Their teaching methods is one of the reasons for the high scores. MBM continues to drive out good staff and that's the problem!!

Right on how many principals in 6 to 7 years at the Roosevelt? MBM is the worst lair of all.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

For a staff member to say I quit and lose out on ten years of hard work for the City of Melrose, that's saying a lot. MBM did nothing for this person and neither did CT. I saw many jobs posted that CT maybe could of turned around a bad situation. This is all due to MBM being the worst principal at the Rosie...

Schooldigger is nothing but a mathematical computation and ranking of the standardized test scores. You can do the math yourself off of the scores recently posted on the DOE website to see that the Roosevelt did extremely well on the PARCC. And while you do not care about websites that rank test scores, trust me, many families use test scores as their criteria to choose where to live. Melrose test scores has been improving immensely over the past 5 years and housing prices are going up too.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Nope: "Melrose test scores has been improving immensely over the past 5 years "

Look at the SATs and ACTs, the tests that actually matter for college and careers, and it is plainly evident that the district has been in a huge downward spiral, now significantly worse--at or below state averages.

The "Drill and Kill" practices CT and her hack administrators have instigated have indeed produced some spikes in PARCC and MCAS, but this does not mean that education in Melrose has improved in the ways that matter for our students. They only matter for the administrators sending this garbage to the PR firm and bucking for their next undeserved raises, and for impressing the equally fraudulent higher echelons at DESE for their eventual consultant positions. Real education, critical thinking, competent mastery of the English Language, math, science, embracing of the full arts frameworks, none of this is happening anymore except in the small pockets of educational insurgence by those teachers still dedicated first and only to the students, even when it means their own lives amount to a living hell having to deal with the incompetent monsters who are directing traffic administratively now.

Go ahead and swoon over the charlatan/realtor view of Melrose Public Schools if that helps you sleep at night, but don't think you can sell that to those of us who have been paying close attention and looking deeper than the superficial crap of which you are obviously enamored.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Funny how everyone on this board seemed all over standardized test scores when they placed Horace Mann (and the district) into Level 3 status - how frequently was this brought up? But now that test scores show Melrose is doing well, those same test scores are a bunch of nonsense.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Yes, HM was Level 3 back when there was something to compare itself to, when there were many years of MCAS results piling up. Now it's all just a major cluster-you-know-what. Looking at the combination of the few areas of MCAS and then PARCC, and then reading about the tiny technicality that bounced the school (based on a precedent of one other elsewhere in the state that was challenged) out of Level 3 into 2 (more DESE BS) shows what a meaningless game the statewide testing is now, where even DESE cannot agree with itself about what it's doing. However SAT and ACT tests are national, and they have nothing to do with local statewide education politics. Every student hoping to get into any kind of even vaguely selective college has to worry about being measured in these tests, certainly flawed, constantly being revised and politicized in their own right, but critically important nonetheless. MHS does not begin to stack up, even with the mediocre districts. Critical reading/thinking, math...not deemed important to the careers of the Melrose administrators and therefore not a priority. The results are abysmal and they show the collective years of neglect and bad management in Melrose. PARCC and MCAS are meaningless exercises for high school students going to college (except of course in that they continue to point out where Melrose still fails catastrophically, as in science). Read between the lines about all those statistics of how many students did NOT score proficient/advanced, but rather Needs Improvement/Failing, and Melrose still sucks overall.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Ms. Taymore should be leaving. Not the teacher. You have every right to be concerned. It's a constantly revolving door of staff up there, it's impossible to keep track of who anyone is any more.

You know it's not true that Melrose is "doing well" but a good try at misrepresenting the truth. Are you voting for Trump or just advising him?

Heard from a reliable source that Melrose is only looking good this year because of another technicality in the Dept. of Ed. Some Melrose elementary schools had test score results at lower levels this year which would make them Level 2 schools, not Level 1, but the state reports them at the higher level for the accountability rating. Something about being held harmless during the change to a new test.

And they wonder why people want more charter schools. Also when we vote for more of them in November - contrary to what the unions is pushing -it only involves inner urban city schools not suburbs like Melrose - but honesty is not one of the traits of the unions - and I might add our own Ms. Driscoll, Chair of the school committee.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Very simply, there is a charter school that “serves” the Melrose community that is at its current capacity. Expansion of charter schools in the state will only cost Melrose taxpayers more dollars and there will be no upside to residents here. Regardless of what you think about Melrose or the MVRCS; expanding charter schools in the state will only be a negative for Melrose residents. There will be no more slots made available to Melrose students anywhere. Simply put; not upside to residents. Unless you are interested in using your dollars to fund students in other communities, it makes no sense to support this.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Question 2 is going down like a $2 dollar hooker[:)]

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

You'll be surprised in November how much question 2 wins by.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

When there are as many slots for Melrose residents as there are applicants, and when the reimbursement to the city is exactly the same as is paid out in costs for those who do go,and when charters are not allowed to decline to support special needs students, then I'll consider it. Right now it is not a level playing field.

Here's an example: Student A enrolls in a charter. City pays the cost for the full year. Student A withdraws after the cutoff date. Student B (because there is an enormous wait list) enrolls to fill the vacancy. Charter then collects full year cost from city (same or different city) for that student. Bottom line - charter has had 1 total student for the year but collects total cost for 2. In whose world or on what planet is that right?

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

If your child has special needs the teachers and principals ignore those students. Vote yes on question 2 the charter is the way to go.

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

And therein lies one of the big problems. Charter schools under the current funding forula and regulations are a racket that needs to be stopped. I have no question that such a school with "special" standards for admission and retention might do a "better job" of educating those that do stay the course there than a local system, especially the train wreck that is the Melrose system, but for all practical purposes, they "cherry pick" their students population, eliminating poor performers and those with special needs, and they get full year cost for every student that attends, even those that withdraw during the year. It is a racket. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how MVRCS has made the real estate acquisitions they've made in the last few years. Where does all that extra money come from?

Meanwhile, if you don't "win" (really?) that lottery, you're stuck in Melrose, but you're paying for the kid that did "win" the lottery. Since when is education based on the luck of the draw (or worse)?

Re: Roosevelt PARCC

Superintendent T. right now makes just under $180,000 a year. If she retired tomorrow at 80% she'd be collecting approximately $144,000 in retirement. Good Bye!
