Dangerous lead levels in the Melrose Schools drinking water. The Franklin Early Childhood Center, the Winthrop School, and the Ripley School all have dangerous levels of lead in the water. Other schools show levels of lead, but they aren't over the action level. The youngest children are damaged the most from lead. Many schools around the state don't have any detectable levels of lead in the water. Why is there in Melrose?
For how many years did those in charge in Melrose know about the excessive and dangerous levels of lead in the drinking water in the schools? For how many years did they do nothing?
It would take millions of dollars to replace all the pipes in all the schools to get rid of the lead. Melrose didn't pass the override. Melrose didn't want to pay for it. Look in the mirror - did you vote for the override? Money doesn't fall from the sky.
Convene an emergency meeting of the Melrose Birth to Five Committee to discuss that the little cherubs are being poisoned with lead in water at the Early Childhood Center.
If you think one red cent of that stupid override would have gone towards addressing any of the myriad of real problems that exist in this pitiful excuse for a city, then you're even dumber than your post suggests. As long as people keep listening to those certifiable lunatics on the SC, the do-nothing B of A who are complicit with that puffed-up slob in the Mayor's office voting for every cockamamie scheme he puts forth with the sole purpose of making himself look good, and the lying real estate agents, especially that red-headed shrew who will tell any lie to make a sale, then nothing is going to change.
Graduating senior, lead found at high levels in the elementary school. You do the math
One way to retain power corruptly is to keep the populace uneducated. No better way to hold them down than poison the 3 year olds with lead while their brains are developing.
time to do some renovations in our older buildings, funded by a specific dedicated override.
It sure didn't. Gee - maybe we shouldn't have spent millions on a dumba$$ learning common.
The Winthrop school no questions the school needs to be replaced a long time ago. When I first moved into Melrose.
Sorry, "Winthrop" but the Fire and Police Stations need to be the priority. The MHS Learning Commons could have waited. The renovation and expansion of the Library is a ridiculous waste of taxpayer monies when there are other priorities. The State Department of Revenue reported a multi-million dollar shortfall today (1st quarter tax collections are down 2.2%) which will impact all cities and towns. We need to elect fiscal conservatives this fall. People are hurting. Money doesn't grow on trees. Politicians in this city need to remember that the override went up in flames.
Didn't Robbie Dolan go to the Franklin School as a kid? That would explain a few things...
How often are kids drinking water in elementary school? School lunches aren't prepared there and kids have water bottles usually.
In many cases the culprit is the actual bubler or fountain, particularly if they are older , replace the drinking fountains with new ones not containing lead components and issue is resolved. Also are the service lines to these buildings lead or have they been upgrade to copper. Come on Mayor Dolan, DPW and school committee these are easy fixes.
The bigger problem is the use of dihydrogen monoxide throughout the city. It's well known to cause corrosion and suffocation, yet it's still used in the schools, hospitals and even senior housing. Wake up Melrose. It's a killer.
Come on Mayor Dolan, DPW and school committee these are easy fixes.
The city would be wise to do its own testing to validate the state agency's report . It is not uncommon for such
alarming reports to be issued close to the end of the fiscal year by agencies desiring to justify and renew their budgets. "Use it or lose it", is the watchword.
Oh sure, MDEP is falsifying reports and alarming Mass citizens to justify their budget?? Wake up and stop watching Fox news and reading Enquirer mag.
This is another act of violations in the city someone needs to find out the facts on this issue.
Come on Mayor Dolan, DPW and school committee these are easy fixes.
Winthrop school and HM should be replaced. The Mayor will not spent a dime because the city did not vote for the override. It will cost a lot of money and schools are broke because the SC gave CT 3 more years.
police and fire stations need to be replaced before any schools
Melrose has given the schools more than there fair share
the Override failed 3to1 and people sent the cIty a message
candidates for elected office this fall need to look at the results of the 2016 election
Mayor Dolan not so stupid after all he enrolled his children on the list for the Charter School good move Dolan.
I can't believe this is true. The little trust and good will he has left would completely disappear. The schools are a mess and the coverups continue at every level. Lincoln parents are sick that another new Principal is on the way. Although, Rob could send his kids to Mystic Valley or Catholic Schools, if he resigns as Mayor and takes a political hack job at the State level.
Comes around. Too funny! Of all the administration hacks whose kids have entered the lottery, it looks the only ones who didn't "win" were Dolan's. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.
The fact that he would even consider this just shows that in spite of all the "historic, incredible, exemplary" garbage he is well aware of the state of the Melrose schools, and it reveals him as the hypocrite that he is.
At least the bobblehead had the good sense to decline to run again. That was the right thing to do, and I actually give her credit for realizing it. Do you honestly think Dolan would have done that? Would he have given up his "Mayor For Life" gig had his kids got in? Yeah, right.
I work at a elementary school and was notified of the problem and bring my own water to scho0ol.
Clickbait, nothing more.
