Most words apply to Melrose EXCEPT for the part about SC getting paid....

Incremental...

Incremental improvement might be ok when you are running a manufacturing plant making widgets...the process is the process and the widget is the widget.

Incremental improvements cannot and should not be the acceptable standard when we are preparing our children to compete in a fast paced, ever changing global economy. Our children cannot afford incremental improvements to a broken education system. That's one.

Two, the pervasive RACIAL achievement gaps in the Boston Public Schools absolutely cannot wait for the School Committee to get its act together and finally hold the School Administration accountable for doing the job that they are all paid -well- to do. Otherwise, the members need to be replaced...remember the School Committee members get paid to hold the district accountable. We need stronger representation to support our children. We need people who are not satisfied with "incremental improvements". That standard is highly offensive.

Because this district and city are fully capable of tackling this issue of RACIAL achievement gaps and winning...yet both have failed to do so, this is quickly becoming a moral crisis. It is a failure of our children that we cannot continue to accept while some celebrate incremental change.

The Boston Public Schools must move from theory to practice. Now.

Best High Schools In Massachusetts For 2018: Report

As the 2017-18 school year kicks off, parents and students heading to their first day of school can see how their high school stacks up against others in the state as Niche.com has released its annual rankings of best public high schools in the country.

The 2018 rankings released this month rank elementary, middle and high schools as well as school districts. We put lists together for each.

To arrive at these rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data and ratings collected from Niche users. The methodology for each category of ranking varied. (Click here for more information on how Niche calculates its rankings.)

Niche assigns a standardized score for each factor, which is then weighted before an overall score is calculated for each school district. The overall scores are again standardized and some districts are disqualified from receiving a final letter grade if there isn’t enough data. School districts are then ranked numerically and assigned grades.According to Niche, these are the best public high schools in Massachusetts (You can see the full list here.):

Massachusetts Academy of Math & Science (Worcester)
Lexington
Wellesley
Newton North
Boston Latin
Newton South
Brookline
Belmont
Weston
Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter (Marlborough)
Acton-Boxborough Regional
Westford Academy
Lincoln-Sudbury Regional
Wayland
Cambridge R&L
Algonquin Regional
Needham
Amherst Regional
Westborough
Concord-Carlisle
Bedford
Westwood
Hopkinton
Sturgis Charter (Hyannis)
Dover-Sherborn Regional

Niche ranked the Solon City School District in Solon, Ohio the best school district in the country. With an overall Niche grade of A+, the district received a grade of A+ in academics, teachers, clubs and activities, college prep and health and safety. In the category of diversity, Niche awarded the school district an A-.

Niche’s data for its K-12 school district rankings comes from various sources including the U.S. Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics and the Civil Rights Data Collection. The rankings also rely on data that is self-reported by Niche users and schools. (Click here to learn more about where Niche’s data comes from.)

What do you think of the rankings?

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Ms. Cindy Taymore is not getting up the doremifasolatido! She should not be fooled again by the school committee, parents, residents, mayor and others. The money is given to her administration, not the educators.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Good evening to all of you. I have a big question for Margaret Driscoll, melrose school committee, our mayor Dolan and all of you at home. For me it seems like they are not thinking about education anymore, they're thinking about adding people to the administration which is top heavy. I'm going to refer to these people who help out in the classroom to people who enjoy what they're doing and they care about the kids. They don't get paid a lot of money, and when I hear elected officials possibly talking about eliminating them, the big question becomes, what is their agenda? Yes folks, I'm asking that question, what is Margaret Driscoll's agenda. Is she trying to prepare herself to move up the ladder to be business manager, sooner then later? That's the way that I look at it. It's only a thought, and an opinion. But the bigger concern here is, is the education of every single child that attends the melrose public school system. Lets shine a little more light on this, it's not about the teachers being against the peers, or the peers against the teachers. This is really about education here. So I would say to every family in melrose, please make sure you call the mayors office and let him know how you feel about this. And make sure you call everybody on the school committee, I know from my own personal experience, paraprofessionals really do a good job. Some folks might not like what I'm saying, but it's time to make your opinions known to all, not just the school committee, board of alderman, our mayor, and our superintendent. Education is important and for those of who have forgotten about it, shame on you. What's more important, having another administration person or having paraprofessionals? I think that it is important that we use every avenue that we have available to educate every student and any student that has an IEP where the paraprofessional can come into play. It's sad when we have elected officials that don't really look at the big picture. Maybe because their children never had any difficulties in school. Please do not think that I am stepping over the line because I am sure as hell not. This is Melrose, sometimes you need to spell it out very clearly to all. So for those of you that think that you all have the answers, think again. What do I mean by that? Everyone of you should think of it as your own child being educated here. This is not about pointing fingers at one another. This is not about the teachers union. Sticking up for paraprofessionals, why change something if it has been working for all these years? The only thing that I can think of, is that melrose public school systems, under our current superintendent hasn't thought about or seeked the funds to teach a lot of these children in house instead of sending them to other places. Maybe because it seems to me that they just like to create more administration jobs. It's just an opinion. So let's all wake up. And ask the interesting question; what is important here in melrose for an education. Hiring more teachers or hiring more administration folks that do not deal with the children. Okay folks, I'm looking forward to hearing about your comments and thoughts.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Learning commons in MHSlights stay on all the time. Ms. Paymore would not like this.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

She just wants to profile the crown jewel of the High school according to Dolan: A 3.5 million dollar hangout for unsupervised, unruly kids.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Our forefathers would be rolling over in their graves if they saw that the majority of Melrose residents would be prohibited from being mayor simply because they owned a local business or a practice or a farm. They specifically wanted local representation to local, state and Federal government to be a temporary duty that you did as sacrifice for your country, state or town. They specifically did NOT want career politicians or aristocracy controlling these positions, particularly in their local governments. There was NEVER a prohibition against continuing the family business of farming, etc. No politician had to divest themselves of their farms, their businesses, their practices. For. what would they do when they completed their term?? The undemocratic Melrose model is a highly unusual practice for cities and towns even by today's standards. Let's make Melrose a Democracy again!

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Melrose is tapped out and will not go any further.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Just as the earth goes through seasons, so does a family in the course of time endure seasons. So does the school. So 2017 and 2018 will be good for all.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Please do not go there.

With the schools ranking almost 70 in the state is not good. Release CT, let her GO!!!

Its worse than that. Boston Magazine just rated them around 62th out of 125 systems in the Metro Boston Area. Eliminate the poor towns and cities and lousy systems (of which there are many within the 495 belt) and then you will get a true reflection of just how bad the Melrose School District is performing compared to their true socio-economic counterparts.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Mcleans hospital is where the SC need their head examined if they give the super one more second in Melrose schools.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

First, it's McLean Hospital (not plural), and second, the SC has already voted to extend CT's contract in secret. Sure, the SC needs its collective head examined, but the public that keeps these awful people in office and fails over and over again (including this cycle) to put forward credible candidates is the bigger culprit.

Well said - and quite truthful! Too much indifference in the city over schools - basically because if you don't have kids in the system, which most don't - most people don't pay attention.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Hey, I assumed this is Melrose Messages not a English test. You are correct the residents with no children have no clue. And it is not a secret how many years more super has received from the SC and Mayor.[Thumbsdown]

If your household was paying 900 hundred dollars a month to better the education. I think you have a idea, and you can not do a thing about it. Slowly, it is trickling down and will hurt Melrose.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

The secret is Cindy got over 1 and under 5 years to stay in Melrose.[Huhh]

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Thinking before you speak or do something. It's about knowing that every day, the choices we make can and will affect our lives. It's about being accountable for our choices in life. We have the right to make our decisions every day, and every day is a new day.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

City had to hire so many and put a percentage of residents in Melrose. CT has the most law suits of any superintendent in this city. Now,the SC gives her over 1 and under 5 more years. It is too be a secret. The cats out of the bag CT, got 3 more years.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

They went through great lengths to sneak this one by the Melrose residents. Unfortunately, stupid executive decisions like this have political consequences.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

There is an end to this road we're on if nothing changes.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

The problems in Melrose begin and end with the principals and teaching staff.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

When you cheat it's you who gets cheated.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

You are only cheating yourself. Melrose teacher's clearly know they need improvement[Warning] Then again you only get what you pay for.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Please don't post anything improper as her family might see it.

Patty was a good person who fought for the rights of children in our district pro bono. A strong advocate for anyone in need. An intellectual, attorney, friend, mother, sister, daughter. A person unafraid to speak out against those who placed themselves above the needs of our children.
Rest in peace Patty. You will be missed.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Attorney Wright fought hard for real justice in Melrose. Her courage and intelligence were complemented by her huge, loving heart. She was tough in her tenacity and ferocity, but her heart was always in the right place. Her passing is an enormous loss for our community. Rest in peace, Patricia. Sending deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

The community continues to get soaked by an extortionist city government. via water/sewer and tax schemes, They are smart enough to see that some of these administrators are not too swift, but they buy into the jargon and don't look too closely. Most have never bothered to investigate beyond what they hear from their neighbors or friends at yoga.

Mother and daughter relationships are complex because the daughter looks to her mother as a role model of what a woman is. As she grows up and sees other women who live their lives differently, she chooses between imitating her mother or other significant influences in her life. As an adolescent she may come to look down on her mother and think that other woman are much better. Of course she is not a fully grown woman so she does not understand the challenges and choices that her mother faces. It is only when she herself becomes a woman that she can fully appreciate her mother.

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Take this into consideration. The bullies are the rich kids that kick out the poor ones in a group. Mostly girls are the bullies in the high school and in life.

Since the loss of you
I've learned to live for each day
And take it as a blessing
Knowing it may not always be this way.

Since the loss of you
I've learned that when everything goes wrong
To never give up on what is right
Because it can only make you strong.

Since the loss of you
I've learned that even when you're in a lot of pain
You've got to hold yourself together
So you won't feel like you're going insane.

Since the loss of you
I've learned how to hold the tears when I want to cry
Because all I have is memories
And just want to ask God why.

But mostly, since the loss of you
I've learned a life can be taken in the blink of an eye
And only Heaven really knows when
That person will have to say "Goodbye."

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

You're a very special person.
I'm glad that you're my friend,
For when I need a little advice,
You always have some to lend.

You help me when I am troubled,
Feeling down and out-
I never have to say what's wrong.
You seem to know what I'm all about.

I can always tell you my feelings
Without having you put me down.
You're the person I can turn to
When no one else is around.

I can cry on your shoulder
When things are going wrong.
You give me a smile
And help me to be strong.

You seem to understand me.
After all that we've gone through,
I only have one thing to say...
Thanks for being YOU!

Re: More Staff Leaving the High School?????

Being friends is about sharing our lives with others. There are some aspects of our lives that require that we spend a lot of time together or a lot of writing to help convey our feelings. Other times sharing only a few words are more than adequate. It is not always the long conversation that conveys the deepest feelings. Sometimes, longer modes of expression may seem redundant and lacking in profundity.

Ouch!! Just saw the Melrose MCAS results. It's bad for all the children not learning in school.

After so many years of Melrose school 'improvement,' today's students are doing worse than any were before. They gave the teachers millions more dollars a year. The superintendent gives herself and her pet admins three million dollars a year. It's all been nothing but a show and a waste of taxpayer money. All the money spent on modular classrooms and learning commons and science labs and three new schools and Horace Mann renovations was all just expensive lipstick on the proverbial pig.
