Turkey Question

I had my Mum and Dad over for Sunday dinner a few days ago and my mum was telling me that all the wild turkeys in the Pine Hills (where they live) suddenly “disappear” around this time of year only to re appear around xmas. Do you think that the turkeys know when Thanksgiving is?

Re: Turkey Question

It is only my conjecture....but turkeys have lives too...they are probably having memorial services through the month for all their relatives who have sacrificed their lives for our feasts!

Re: Turkey Question

No they're out doing their Christmas shopping

Re: Turkey Question

Hopefully they avoid Target.

Re: Turkey Question

"Target".... lol.. Nice one Geezer. Nice "non-pun pun".

Now, on a serious note (I know, old folks are supposed to be jovial but this really is bugging me). What do you think about the new "Shop on Thanksgiving Day" thing? Isn't that the end of the traditional Thanksgiving? It's hard to have a real family Thanksgiving when everyone is lining up at 3AM waiting at for the doors to open for what's really a fake shortage in IPads and IWhatEvers this year.

And what does it really accomplish?. The stores collect "Black Friday" money one day sooner...... and no more family gatherings. But hey, maybe we can all meet at the Food Court?

How Sad.

Re: Turkey Question

I agree with you on this. You went to the football game, then came home about 12:30 and you had dinner about 1:00. After the meal, everyone sat around and talked. Not wolf something down and dash of to go shopping. Sometimes a relative or friend would drop by and it was always a good day.

I've always wondered if the Football game at 10:00AM and return home at 12:30 wasn't a planned conspiracy on the part of the mom's and grandma's and perhaps a few sisters, to get the dad's, the grandpa's and kids out of the house so the dinner could be prepared..... while they all talked about us.

hmmmm..... ?

Re: Turkey Question

I agree with you Old Guy and RATT! (Geezer…that was hilarious!) Although no one in my family goes shopping on Black Friday and I’m too pooped from days of cooking and cleaning to even think about shopping after Thanksgiving!

Maybe we could revive Nancy Regan’s “Just Say No” campaign for Thanksgiving commercialism. Or Charmin’s campaign “Everybody Gos… Why Not Enjoy Not Going? Come on folks! It's one day of not going! How bad can that be?

Re: Turkey Question

You know; I have got sort of addicted to watching the Lions and Cowboys, verses whoever now. That is if I don't fall asleep after eating to much.

Re: Turkey Question

Oh! you mean that sleeping drug that all Turkeys have.

That one's always confused me. Why would turkeys have it? It obviously doesn't do the job in the turkey protection area since it tends to take effect after the turkey has been eaten. And I've never heard of a bunch of foxes found fast asleep around a turkey in the woods so it must be the cooking that activates the sleeping drug.

It's an anomaly wrapped in an enigma.
