Sterndrive is always the biggest problem. The end result is that the replacement or repair cost will soon exceed the value of the boat. The boat is then destined to be scraped.
My advise is quite simple. If you are a first time buyer, do not even touch it. If you are not put off by the boat you will be put off by the sport all together.
If you think you know enough to outrun the problems with the sterndrive, then carry a spare outboard (with a bracket installed) when you go out to sea.
Another issue I just want to raise is you very first message to raise the matter. If I think it is a good buy, I would say bad things about it and deter you from going. The question is whether you will get genuine comments on the boat.
