Anslem Peters Scholarship Fund 2014 Presentation

Anslem Peters Scholarship Fund 2014 Presentation

The Anslem Peters Scholarship Fund (APSF) continues in its mission to contribute to the development of the parish of St. John's, by making its eighth annual presentation to its recipients for the school year 2014-2015. The recipients of the fund are students from the primary schools of the parish, who successfully passed the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), formally the Common Entrance Examination. Along with being successful in the exams, the recipients must possess a strong desire to learn and be considered financially disadvantaged.

The APSF started in 2006 as the 'Cuthbert Peters Scholarship Fund', with Anslem Peters, son of the late Cuthbert Peters, being its main benefactor.

For the past eight years the fund has been successfully managed by a two man committee (Sir Carlyle Glean and Mr Lauriston Hosten) and assist the students with the purchase of books and uniforms; the payment of school fees, and transportation to and from school.

To date, ASPF has assisted twelve (12) students in attending secondary schools in St. John's, St. Mark's and St. George's of which five (5) has since graduated. Its most recent graduate, Shonia Douglas who attended the St. Joseph's Convent, St. George's, passed 7 out of 8 Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) subjects, which she sat during the 2014 Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) examination period. The Fund is also proud to announce that recipient Keishona Passee, student of St Joseph’s Convent, is now in Form 5 and will sit twelve (12) CSEC subjects in the 2015 CXC examinations. We celebrate the induction of its newest recipient , Monique Williams, past student of the St. John’s R.C. School now attending the St. John’s Christian Secondary School.

The committee meets once a year to evaluate the year’s performance of the students; welcome the new student and bid farewell to the graduated student. The opportunity is also taken to hear from students and parents regarding the past year. In addition, a pep talk is given by committee members and other adults present.

During the meeting parents were encouraged to monitor their child and should be their friend so they can maintain a relationship throughout their study life.

Re: Anslem Peters Scholarship Fund 2014 Presentation

Congratulations to all the recipients, and good to see that they are not wasting the opportunities afforded them, but are in fact doing very well in school. Congratulations also to Mr. Anselm Peters for continuing to do what he's committed himself to do. People like Mr. Peters, Dr. Kenny Lewis and Mrs. Carnice Alexis-Modeste through her Educators Scholarship are surely making a difference in the lives of our young Gouyave students. Hooray to them!!
