Also contributing to this 'paucity' is our adaption to new devices (Tablets, Ipads and Iphones to name a few) and our increased use of social media networks as a means of communication. The ability to screen who one chooses to communicate with and share pictures among those considered to be their "personal group of friends" gives one a sense of privacy(albeit false)and control as oppose to the openess of a forum like Gogouyave Talkshop where control lies exclusively in the hands of an Administrator, even if we all know and love him.

Another contributory factor is the loss of privacy due to the smallness and homogeneous nature of our country, not mention our parish and town. Those of us who had engaged in creating sobriquet as a means of protecting our idedtity, felt that we should reveal ourselves in the interest of honesty in communication (as one should not have anything to hide). That decision in of itself, restricts the individual to engage in healthy "tet e tets".

Lastly, there is the perception of openess and freedom of expression as being an exclusive right to be had and enjoyed by only the few. As such, you may find that open forums like ours create a percieved identity as a nesting ground for uneducated individuals in need of a platform to promote their ignorance.

These, in my opinion, are some of the psychological factors preventing others from posting and engaging in conversations. The may not see it as "healthy" as we do, hence they shy away.

You have the strong will enough to keep on trying despite that combination of strange characters you have to type in before your post is accepted.
It is call perserverance and you have demonstrated that- that speaks volumes.

Maybe people are just not interesting because the alternative hypothesis regarding the ' challenge' of typing the characters that you refer to- if that is the case, it makes me wonder what we are made of, how will we stick together when ' real challenges come our way.
To avoid getting in trouble- wink, wink, I will say no more right now.

About the need to have this security settings at the bottom. If this is not there you wont want to visit the site because of the amount of spammers waiting to post their stuff. Like you, i am having problems posting but this is the best we can do at the moment. The forum is a free one provided by Bravenet and that come with some spammers.

Its a constant battle every night to delete spam messages. i can prove to you that if i remove the security feature with 20 seconds, over 50 spam messages will be posted with all type of malware to infect your computers.

I am still trying my best to get back the previous format, So guys, i hope you understand the situation.

Arthur I understand and appreciate that you have to take security measures to protect the Talkshop from 'invaders', and my comments are not meant in any way to negatively criticize your efforts. I am very pleased that the site is up and running and is a source of vital information to us who are far from home.

Spamming can prove to be terrible. Some of the links sent over may be filled with malicious spyware or can just crash one's computer. Some of us may be wise enough to know not to click on the attached links but Arthur knows some may not and their computers can get infected hence the security factor. When the board gets filled up with spam it is very offputting as it is like trying to find one post inside of the spam. It must be very harassing to keep cleaning it up. If I have to post I don't find it too difficult to wade through the security factor.

Btw, I did not know for about two or three weeks that TS was up and running again until a "reader only" told me. I had become tired of checking only to find it was still down. Some may not even be aware that it is back up and running.

It has been some time, spam notwithstanding, that there has been a great flurry of activity on this site. I remember someone who never ever posts would always say that the board is boring. Basically my answer was so POST...posters are not there to entertain you, be a part of it and make it interesting then! LOL

Guys, i am not thin skin and took no offence. I am old enough to know that your expressions of concern it ONLY that. I know it can become frustrating to post but here is what i do, i do the letters as i see them, capital or common, in that way, it is easy or you can click "different image".

If any of you know of a easier forum format, send me a link and i could try it out and see if it will work for us.
