The nutmeg was part of the isle colonial life, grated in hot cocoa, grated in sweet potato puddings, grated for our cornmeal porridge... family members sold nutmeg to pay for their household needs.....

Associatively picked up by congregations of nutmeg farmers,
On parcels of treasured land.
Cooperatively sorted, weighed and priced;
huddled together as green, dried or purely cracked!
With cracked sold at a crackingly low price,
Yet, still a connoisseur’s delight and highly apprized!


Hordes and hordes of nutmegs,
green, dried or purely cracked!
Cooperatively bagged, fragrantly sealed;
For shipments to mapped, ‘atlas’ nations!
Who awaitest thee! O pharmaceutical delight! O bakers’ delight!
O folklores ritual delight! O fragrant treasure of the isle delight,
Be you green, dried or purely cracked!
