Avoiding the arrogance of aggressive slave-owners, may have been my ancestral obeah slaves relatives forte..... the obeah slaves, did not 'avoid arrogance' of any nature, they simple dealt with it, they 'obeahed' their terrified slave-owners. From my perspective, children of God do not have to 'avoid arrogance', for God will equip His children with all the spiritual resources to deal with it...... a couple stones and a sling and Goliath went down! Obeah, why do folks fear your power, when they pray to a Higher Power?
from leeward to windward sugared isles;
fearless, slave-coast, slaves used their ‘faith filled’ power
to shield themselves from brutal oppressors,
who with dread, legally outlawed ‘obia dance setting’ rituals!

Obeah, why do folks fear your power, when they pray to a Higher Power?
your botanical potions, prepared on ‘foreign’ isles,
drummed up favour from your rhythmic-trance dance;
to counteract ills or inflict deadly ills;
even stopping oppressors from walking down the sugar cane aisles!

So, Obeah, why do folks fear your power, when they pray to a Higher Power?
And, saddened free folks with eyes cast to the ground,
where ‘obia setting’ slaves of olde lyeth silently at rest.
But, the voice of the Most High, still resounds,
Across the once raw-muscavado’d enslaved isles,
with His own ‘power setting’ words....... ‘Oh ye of little faith’.
