forestay advice please

Hi - could someone please advise on the following -

On the Dart rigging guide it shows a shackle between the upper and lower forestay wires with the lower forestay wire attching to this shackle (from the jib connecting ring) - I have my upper and lower forestay wires both connected to the slot on the jib ring with no shackle - is there any disadvantage in doing this - any advice much appreciated.

Yes, the jib ring will twist and you wont be able to raise or lower the jib easily! Make sure the shackle you use is adequate though , mine snapped last year! Fortunatly I bore straight off and saved the jib (as all the tension had come on to this.

Re: forestay advice please

Thanks David - yes we have had a bit of trouble lowering the jib !!

Dose the forestay tie down to the bridle wires or shackle down? On the 'Jib assembly' page it seems to illustrate both?! If it shackles, what’s the best type to use?
Cheers

Re: forestay advice please

Callum, if you shacke your forestay to the windwand you'll lose any adjustability of mast rake. Without going into too much detail 6"-8" of rope adjuster gives you a good amount of mast rake subject to shroud lengths... uh oh, feel i'm opening up a whole can of worms here!!

Hope this helps

Paul
