Garda Day 2!!

day 1 saw just 1 race with Norman/Rodgers winning (cant remember 2nd place) and Manganelli / Foster in 3rd!! I remember Marco and Rachael coming 3rd because all marco could do last night was smile and laugh!!!!

Today saw a 8am start!!! can you believe it? I mean, how silly is that? I thought I'd be one of the first at the club arriving at 6.15am but of course just as I was locking up my bike the German boat next to me was hoisting his mainsail - nothing changes there then!
Race 2 was postponed from Day 1 and I think Gareth and Will won it but don't quote me, Marco and Rachael came 7th.
The third race was shifty with Lloyd/Farthing winning. Marco finished 41st so not so much smiling!!!!

The wind shifts are all over the place, no side of the lake is preferred and the wind can come and go as it pleases with no warning!! Whose idea was it to come here anyway?

After the first 2 races of the day today we all returned to shore for lunch and then went afloat again for the 3rd race of the day (Race 4). It was Gen Recall twice and then a black flag saw the fleet split in two. F2 winds and dropping! The race was abandoned half way down the first run and again we returned to shore. Most people packed up their boats in anticiption for an abandonment of racing for the day. This was confirmed by the race officer 20 mins later.
Its the "party night" with a big Italian style meal at a big restaurant tonight so I'm off for a shower - hope this update is what you wanted to know. I'm sure someone will provide a more detailed report soon.

You'll notice that have not mentioned my own racing results - there is a reason for that!!! ;)

Re: Garda Day 2!!

Thanks for the update, you are quicker than their results and weeks ahead of the webcam (although it would be good if this was fixed so we could watch you running round the boat park at 6.30am from the comfort of our bads!)

So the Dart Worlds wind curse strikes again then!

Look forward to day 3 report!

Re: Garda Day 2!!

Thanks for the update Jess like Barry have found the website is behind , hope you and Chris do well today.
Say well done to Marco!

Re: Garda Day 2!!

Garda after 3 races:

Dan Norman and Mel Rogers are sailing really well and had a good points lead. Emanuel Dode and Billy Besson (European Champions) were just behind in 2nd and there was a big points gap to a group of boats on similar points - Herve le Maux/Jo Jo, us, Thierry, Ben Mienie from South Africa.

3 races today, the first 2 in strong winds, but no results yet - it is a late day. We were doing OK in the first race today - about 5th and the mast hook pulled out of the top of the mast taking a chunk of aluminium with it - apparently a few other masts have had the same problem - so we missed 3 races! As we left the race, Lloydy had a bit of a lead, Paul Waklin was doing well and Dan was in 4th - so looking good for the Brits.

Other Brits after 3 races - 8th Paul W. Emma, 9th Matt Ambrose/Sarah Wren, 10th Marco / Rachel 14th Lloydy /Catherin Farthin, Lawrie/Sophie 18th

It will change a lot after todays racing.

Re: Garda Day 2!!

Yes, getting an update is not easy. If you go to http://www.sail-world.com/UK/index.cfm?rid=3&DfPage=g you will find a report after 2 days with some results. Maybe this site will be updated again before the worlds site.

Re: Garda Day 2!!

After 6 races
Dan and Mel are just ahead of Emanuel Dod and Billy Besson, Lloydy up to 3rd, Paul W. 4th, Herve 5th and Ben Mienie 6th really close together.

3 more races are going to start any minute. We have managed to borrow a mast, but have 3 did not finishes due to the mast failure.

Re: Garda Day 2!!

Hi Harold

We have mentioned to the club the distinct lack of information for people who were unable to attend but they seem to be a bit slow at getting off the mark with it!!

I will pick up the results tomorrow morning and get some information to you.

There were a lot of protests today but the top three currently lie with Norman/Rogers 1st, Besson / and French crew 2nd, Wakeline / Curtis (Fluid Boat Services) 3rd.

lloyd / Farthing chomping at the bit and Marco still holding a place within the top 10!!

More news to follow but todays races were sailed in "true" Garda wind, F6 arriving promptly at 1.30pm. It was honking under the massive cliffs that plunge into the lake and crew flat out on the trapeeze wire was the only way forward. The downwind gusts made the run pretty interesting but all boats made it home safely with just a few capsizes and the odd collision.

The standard of racing at this years event is consistently high which makes the ongoing competition a true world level championship.

More news to follow - all jolly exciting here though.
