Abrams' 'Revolution' 'Emberverse' ripoff..?

As I'm sure most of you are aware, JJ Abrams' latest TV excursion is Revolution:

However, after seeing the promos, I've come to the uncomfortable realization that's it's very similar to SM Stirling's Emberverse series.

To wit, both take place where the power mysteriously disappears and humanity is forced to live in primitive conditions amidst the ruins of the old world.

If anyone has read his books, is there a possibility he may have a case against Abrams?

How is it any different than Cameron ripping off Disney's Pocohontas? If it'll make money the entertainment industry tends to overloook such "small" things as infringement or lack of creativity.
