Keel bolts

I am considering a MKll that it's last registration expired in 2013 and there is very little history of usage. Outwardly it's a mess, but looking into the construction it appears to be a very solid boat. My biggest concern is the keel bolts. These in particular are exposed where I've seen others that were covered and or treated. The exposed bolt ends and nuts are rusted. How concerned should I be? Are these boats known for issues with the cast iron keels? Any info regarding this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: Keel bolts

I have 1970 MKII with original keel bolts. The nuts are stainless steel and we’re replaced at some point. Like yours, the bolts are also rusted but have been holding on for 52 years. My boat is in fresh water, which ads some life. I plan to replace the bolts within the next few years. Hope that helps.

Re: Keel bolts

Yo! Getting mine inspected here soon . 1969 Columbia 26 . They’re hella rusted and might need to be replaced soon.

Re: Keel bolts

Just removed my keel bolts from my 1970s Mark 2 and they appear to be in good shape. my concern was that my metal plate was corroded which I wanted to replace.

Any idea what's in the bottom of the hole and if there is a proper way to reassemble and if any torquer specs?
