Police blog

What happened to the Melrose Police Log? It stopped in August. It was nice to know about what is going on in the city. Newspaper only lists a few.

You should probably just call the Chief and yell at him, thats what everyone else seems to do.

Re: Police blog

Drugs are rampant and the publicity undercuts the MEF nonsense, Real Estate lobby and Override efforts. Not publishing the police log also covers for all the drunk drivers who are coming home from the "The Fish", VFW, Elks and K of C.

Re: Police blog

The real reason the police log is no longer being updated was too many parents of school age children were finding out about the "secret" police reports quietly being filed on them by the school administration when they made a complaint about a school employee or firmly advocated for their child. If you or your child has had any contact with the School Resource Officer, or even if not, well guess what? There is probably a police report on you. And believe me, it probably won't paint a pretty picture or a true one for that matter and that's why they don't want you to know about it. It's the School District's "Two Strikes and You're Out" policy. Problem is, you'll never even know about the first strike. The second time you make a complaint, you'll get your summons to appear in District Court. Take a guess who came up with this sinister little strategy?

Sounds like something that would come straight out of Myron's demented mind?

Re: Police blog

Myron works for the Schools or City Hall? Really?

Re: Police blog

The Police log elimination was instituted because of The Domestic Violence Information Protection Law passed by the Stae Legislature last summer.

Another MelroseMessages conspiracy theory bits the dust.

Sorry, but your theory is wrong. The only redactions required are for those log entries with identifying information for sexual crimes or domestic violence. There is no reason why they would discontinue entire log.

Re: Police blog

And you seriously want your police force spending their time editing a blog? What a colossal waste of resources that would be.

Re: Police blog

It's not a blog. It's a daily log, and they are required by law to keep one. Since it's now done electronically, it would take one person all of twenty seconds to publish it.

Re: Police blog

I think it works like this....

The police are required to keep the information and make it available upon request. The Police are not require to publish it. Any citizen (or news paper, etc.) can go to the station and request a copy.
