Consensus on override vote

Whats the general consensus on MM of whether or not this crowd would support an override to upgrade or replace the police and fire facilities in Melrose?

Police and Fire Department upgrades
Whats the general consensus on MM of whether or not this crowd would support an override to upgrade or replace the police and fire facilities in Melrose?

I am taxed and fee'd enough already. No effing way.

Re: Consensus on override vote

I would vote specifically for a Fire/Police complex. The talk of the Library renovation/expansion is ridiculous considering the unhealthy state of public safety buildings. If any bond bundles Memorial Hall, The Library, or any school projects w/public safety buildings, I would vote NO! My apologies in advance to the fire and police officers who have been neglected for decades.

Re: Consensus on override vote

I would support a *bond exclusion* on some conditions:

1. That the project be timed to kick in when the middle school bond is retired or very nearly retired.

2. That it be project-specific, and not capable of being fudged for other projects. Every tub on its own bottom.

3. That Mayor Dolan commits to not to run for reelection - i.e., he commits to retire/leave the job. Ideally, I'd like any alderman who votes to propose this but who's been in office (or, combined with prior tenure of a family member) for more than 8 years to commit to do likewise.

Re: Consensus on override vote

I agree with your stipulations. I am 3rd generation in this city.
I cannot afford an override along with a lot of other residents.
After the fiasco with the charter review committee I trust this city's admin,
even less,

Dolan needs to step down and not use the mayor's position as a lifetime career.
He has in my opinion ruined everything that this city was with no positive
results. He wants to take credit for all the good in this city and downgrade
everything else that was done.

The members of this school committee along with the Superintendent are the the
most arrogant and holier than thou that I have ever seen.

Get out of the relators' pockets and maybe just maybe this city has a chance
to recover. What this city is now is just a sad-sad- shame.

I don't trust nobody and nobody trust me...

Re: Consensus on override vote

It amazes me that this city continues to keep their heads up there a**. In a couple of years we will have a casino approximately five miles away. The police department is understaffed, going with 1970's numbers, undertrained and underequipped all doing so out of a deplorable building that is a law suit waiting to happen. Now add the traffic from the casino, the associated crime, ie. House breaks, car breaks, assaults, ouis to name a few the melrose police department has no chance whatsoever to combat whats coming. I see all area departments preparing themselves with new buildings, new equipment and most especially capable numbers on the street to combat whats ahead. I suggest dolan thank the malden mayor and police chief for being our last line of defense. Oh yeah can we at least get rid of the embarrassing IT department so we can actually write our reports and maybe print them for court its becoming quite an embarrassment.

Re: Consensus on override vote

He should care about the police Mayor Dolan but he only cares about himself. He needs to go along with the SC and say bye to Cindy. When your school is about 70 in the state it's a problem.

Re: Consensus on override vote

This isn't like the school override. This is something that actually needs to happen. And I can see a 55% for 45% against being the final result. It will pass.
