Just the Beginning

This will not be the last big increase in municipal spending. Within a few years the city will need to replace the central fire station and the police station. Because the city has not addressed these needs yet, it will become an emergency situation. By then those facilities may be literally falling apart.

They are saving that legitimate spending until after this override. Our tax bills are going to increase more than they are letting on.

Re: Just the Beginning

Howard,

You are correct sir! But I think they do that as a debt exclusion, meaning when that expense is paid off, the increase in your taxes goes back down. Still not palatable though. Scary part is putting 5 million in Taymore's hands to be mismanaged for 'eternity'.

Peace!

Re: Just the Beginning

Well, if the override passes, there will be an extra $5 million of revenue every year forever. I'm sure they won't give that all to the schools, right? They'll use that for for PD and Fire, right? Right???? Right......

Re: Just the Beginning

The police and fire stations are ALREADY falling apart.
When was the last time the “Public Safety Building Committee met?
What is the report findings?
The report was never released which is why it was put “indefinitely on file”.
Voted NO today in honor of police and fire public servants everywhere.

Re: Just the Beginning

That's why they're so desperate for the override because if we have a debt exclusion, fewer people would agree to the override. Melrose is wealthier than it was but it's still not wealthy. Look at Winchester. Only about 4K came out to vote which means the others didn't care about the extra money either way. Here even those one Melrose sheep would start to care if the bills got too high.
