Cottage Street

Nothing this city does makes any sense. Who came up with the bright idea to extend the sidewalks way out on both sides of Cottage Street directly across from the Beebe School? This serves no purpose at all other than to restrict traffic, cause problems and WASTE MONEY. The Beebe will never be able to open now as nobody will be able to get to any from the school in traffic. Thanks Melrose another disaster of an idea.

Re: Cottage Street

The Board of Aldermen has a subcommittee called "Public Works". Alderman John Tramontozzi is chair and Bob Boiselle vice chairman. Neither has any experience related to public works which is the case with other committee chairs and the city agencies they are supposed to oversee. It's no wonder
overrides are looked to as the cure-all.

Ffs. No one thought of the override as a "cure all," especially not for problems like "should we extend this sidewalk or not, or does a rotary make sense here?" It was a fix for a specific problem, which was the underfunding of our schools that was resulting in the underfunding of other departments.

Stop projecting every fault you find in our elected officials onto the override. Don't think they have enough experience? Elect someone else next time. But don't pretend that the override was supposed to cure every problem in our city.

Re: Cottage Street

If people followed the rules of the road they wouldn’t have had to do this. No one stopped at that stop sign (EVER). At least now traffic will be held in check and not flying all over the place.

Not a good solution to force people to use a stop sign. I don't think two way traffic will be able to pass when the buses are lined up at the Bebee. It was already backed up when the buses were lined up before the street was narrowed. Just wait. It was a STUPID thing to do as was narrowing Lebanon Street. Saw a young girl almost get hit by a car riding her bike approaching Lebanon from East Foster. She could not stop her bike and went right into the road. Now that the sidewalk stretches deep into the road, and there is no distance between the sidewalk and actual road it's a recipe for disaster. Not to mention the traffic bottleneck this has created. Stupidity.

The project turned out great. There was much speeding in front of the school and as another poster said, that stop sign was notorious for roll throughs. This will help residents a lot, especially with the senior building right there. Cottage St is a cut through so anything to discourage impatient drivers from using the street is a plus.

"wasting money", I'm glad that your random anecdotes don't have any weight at all on these decisions.
