Cory Thomas is the next Ward 7 rep, correct?

It was not very gracious for that sidewalks guy to ask for recount. He had this aww shucks, I'm here for people front until push came to shove and 4 votes stood between him and the position.

I heard someone in Boston, also is asking for a recount. It makes sense with what I know. you fill in a circle, and it pops into a machine. Who knows if the machine is 100% accurate, or only 99% accurate? What matters is the actual votes of the people. If it is really that close, we should verify the count of the computer. Its just logical. No need to be offended, unless you are threatened that it could go the other way, which would be pretty hypocritical!

I agree that could be bad. But then again remember Scantron? Fill in the circle completely? Maybe some people didn't follow directions properly! If it comes to human error, which does happen, those people should have their votes counted. Whoever wins I think it is refreshing to have some honest excitement.

Those four votes do not count any provisional ballots. That need to be accepted or rejected.

The results will almost certainly change. I can't ever remember a recount when they didn't, for whatever reason. Our most notable example is Dolan's 1st election for mayor. Initially the margin was 1 vote, but increased by several in a recount. This really could get interesting.

It's not ungracious. It's democracy*, of which recounts in very close races are a normal part.

* Of course, when folks in Melrose gummint have problems with democracy and prefer to protect "our own", well, that illustrates the decline in good government here.

Nice to hear. I'm rooting for Cory. Although he knows a lot of people, I don't consider him part of the inside culture or whatever the other guy said. Cory has been contributing to the community for many years. He is very organized and intelligent. Although an unpopular opinion with some of you newbies, the other guy got here 2 years ago and just wants to change Melrose to his liking. Cory has a more balanced approach.

I am concerned that the mail in votes will be from the other guys supporters because that seems to be a new Melrose thing. Too busy to vote so mail in.

Here is my spiel on these 2. I am very interested in this race. I am just so tired of the way things work here. City Council is a job, like any other job. You don't have to work at the company to be the best candidate. Mr. Thomas talked so much about how long he has been here. Who cares? So has Infurna. So has Monica. So has a lot of the old alderman who didn't do a thing. And yet every year, the fire station falls apart, traffic gets worse, I watch kids almost get run over by maniacs cutting through the city, and yes, we get developers who just build whatever and wherever they want. Where is the plan!!!

Here is the truth, there is no plan. Because the way this city is run, we give jobs based on tenure. Well I call BS on that. From now on I am only voting for people who say what they will do. Because then I can call them on their BS if they fail. Candidates who want to "keep Melrose the same" will likely just be squirrely, and justify themselves to NOT do anything. They will blame others. Well, I'm done with that. From now on I only support people who have a plan. I respectfully do not think Mr Thomas has one.

I generally agree with Just One Man. Melrose politicians have the standard small-town virus of being platitudinous and covering for each other when accountability comes a'calling. If we had a local press editor keen on not letting the latter happen, things might be different. Without that, it's up to voters to be less credulous and self-satisfied.

It's come to the point that Cory would be the counter voice to some of the newly elected councilors giving a different perspective. I agree with some of what is said above but he wouldn't be coming on to the old board of aldermen where you would be correct in your assessment. He would be adding a different take on matters.

Watch and see with the new regime coming in. As The Who wisely said circa 1971: Meet the new boss same as the old boss in Won't Get Fooled Again.

After the recount Cory Thomas lost by 126 votes. Crazy swings!

WTF is wrong with you? The margin remained 4 votes, which in and of itself is somewhat remarkable. Thomas election confirmed.
