US News & World Report released its annual list of the nation’s top high schools Tuesday and Melrose High School failed to make the cut.

The publication’s rankings included the top 63 high schools in Massachusetts, about the top 2,000 nationally.

From the rankings:

“At Melrose High School, students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Melrose High School is 38 percent. The student body makeup is 48 percent male and 52 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 20 percent.”

Massachusetts’ top 10:
1. Boston Latin School
2. Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School (Marlborough)
3. Belmont High School
4. Wellesley High School
5. The Bromfield School (Harvard)
6. Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (Malden)
7. Dover-Sherborn Regional High School
8. Medfield High School
9. O’Bryant School Math/Science (Roxbury)
10. Sharon High School

well....

Considering that Melrose schools are now BELOW the state average on nearly everything, MCAS, SATs, ACTs, APs, this should be no surprise. Even trying to fluff up the APs by cramming as many students as possible into them whether it's appropriate or not, didn't help. Even with US News and its low bar of participation rather than achievement calculations, MHS doesn't qualify. Gee, does anyone think that adding a bunch of bogus "new" AP offerings will help this pathetic administration go from "good to great," as Joe Dillon once claimed he was doing? Hey Maureen, whaddaya think? You loved the Joes. Want them back? Maybe MHS could fail its accreditation again.

Will the mayor whine about how Melrose isn't one of the "industrialized" towns like Burlington, so he can posture for an override? He, or rather his PR manager B, always jumps on any chance to post the silly rankings of US News on his silly blog, so do you suppose he'll just stay silent on this one? No doubt he'll be quick to spin this as an issue about money, regardless, because heaven forbid anyone highly placed should take actual responsibility for failed leadership and hurting the education of the city's children! Maybe he'll try to hire Dan Richards back since Belmont ranks at the top yet again and that worked so well last time.

The School Committee should be sure to give itself and its superintendent glowing evaluations for their stellar management, as the principal revolving door gets into full swing again and the exodus of good students and teachers accelerates.

Blame the SC for 3more years of this administration.
