Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

So what are we supposed to read between the lines? Obviously the 8th grade teacher is not returning this school year, though she was allowed to continue for a couple weeks. Is she returning next year? This letter is all we got, but we deserve a real explanation, not just bland and pleasant euphemisms or descriptions of the substitute.

Our kids (and one was a victim) witnessed something truly horrible, at least as heinous as a rich SOB basketball owner making racist remarks to his girlfriend. This was much worse considering it was a teacher, and now a school system. Due process is one thing, but so is "cause" for immediate termination. Just exactly how low is the bar in Melrose now???? No way to get around the impression of a huge cover-up around outrageous malfeasance.

There has to be a way for a truthful, honorable, legally protected communication with the community that respects the confidentiality laws. Nothing about the way this has been managed from all appearances could be correct. Does anyone even care about the message the kids are getting or the long-term harm for that poor young man? He and his classmates are the real victims here, after all.

"Melrose: A Community Open to All" is just a sick PR slogan, at least or until this community decides to fight back and make it real.

Dear Parents/Guardian,

The purpose of this letter is to update you about important information from Team 8A.
I am pleased to announce that we have hired a certified social studies teacher to provide direct social studies instruction to your children for the remainder of the school year. Her name is Jill Dunn. Ms. Dunn’s background includes a degree in history with an emphasis on world history from Colby-Sawyer College. In addition, she has a master’s degree in curriculum instruction and is currently working in a doctoral degree program at Northeastern University. Her most recent assignment was as a long-term world history teaching assignment at our middle school as well as a high school history teaching assignment. Ms. Dunn also coached our middle school rugby team last September.

Ms. Dunn will assume teaching responsibilities for all of Mrs. Balines’s classes. She will work collaboratively with our 8B and 8C world history teachers to create learning experiences and instruction so that all eighth grade students can experience the same curriculum. She will be able to access the Aspen website and to upload learning materials and grades for your students. Her email address is jdunn@melrose.mec.edu.

We thank you for your patience and support during this time of transition. Please feel free to contact us at the email listed below if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Tommy Brow
Principal

Unless more is demanded by the public, nothing will change in the way school leadership is executed in cases such as these. We need some brave members of the public to display their outrage and lack of accountability in our school system at the next school committee meeting. But this won't happen because of the retribution fear factor and therefore, nothing changes.

Anyone out there ready to step up?

What more do you need jerkoff? You got a new teacher and the old one lost her job. But that's not enough to satisfy your voyeuristic tendencies? You want more pain. You want people to "step up". "Step Up" for what? How about we get you a jeep and a rope so you can drag the teacher around the streets of Melrose, Benghazi style? Will that satisfy you? Will that get you off?

What a maggot.

Another excellent job by Mr.Brow. He ignored all the anonymous whiners and handled a tough situation exactly the way it should be handled. He should be commended as should the entire MSC. Regarding the fake outrage on this site, it is just that, fake. Regarding those that think they have the right to know more, you don't. You have the right to know exactly what Brow told you. He will be missed. I hope Conway is taking notes. Of course anyone is free to go speak their mind at the SC meetings. We do have freedom of speech in our country. However, as Mr. sterling found out, you aren't free to determine what others will think of you when you express your views. So, if you want to use an unfortunate situation (that the system handled perfectly) to further your own twisted agendas, feel free. Just don't whine when your friends and neighbors shun you.

Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

Wanting more information is a reasonable desire, but in reading the contract, it's not going to happen. Staff members, like the students, have a legal document preventing the release of this kind of information. If the school system did release all the information to the public, they would breech the contract and have a lawsuit on their hands.

It's frustrating that it has to be this way, but we are an "innocent until proven" country.

I do think that what happened has kind of made its way around town, so be patient to see the final result.

Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

That was a great post "Go Away".

Seriously, a great post. I think a lot of people in Melrose have been thinking the same thing about this idiot.

I'll Second That. Nice post Nunya.

The only way to rid our city of the terrible HATE CRIMES that have transpired in and out of our school system is to own them. Take responsibility. Demand full disclosure. I read the letter that went out from Tom Brow. I am glad there is now a sub in place but will NB be back in the fall? I heard, but cannot confirm yet, this teacher is being compensated while out. If this is true, it's disgrace?!?

Absolutely true statement. And just because the teacher is out doesn't mean anything has been dealt with other than the most obvious necessity. Whatever the minimum acknowledgment is whatever the district will go with, and that is just not acceptable. This involved heinous wrong-doing, and coverup only makes it more so.

Even if they make a deal and let her "retire" as they did with the 7th grade monster-teacher(s)(2 of them!), that is wrong and especially in this case. They will rationalize that it is smart financially instead of a lawsuit or protracted grievance, and also because it will protect their "friend" who surely is weeping and "contrite" (though anyone who's been around for five minutes knows she's been misbehaving and unleashing her rage on students for years), just like the 2 math teachers had been misbehaving for many years.

This is incredibly wrong and is about a very large injustice besides. How many lawyers are rallying around the boy? Answer: probably none. Parents whose own kids were there witnessing this outrageous hate (and not just once either) should be rising up, not only for the boy in question but for all the kids and teachers who should see that this kind of hate and injustice is addressed squarely and appropriately. It will never stop unless this happens. If it means more heads rolling, then so be it. The more the system protects itself over this one, the greater the penalties should be in the end.

Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

Go to your room, Ted. It's not MAH posting anything (you only wish your former mighty adversary were still around, but she isn't). Plenty of others know the truth, starting with how vile and disgusting you are and were. And whatever it is that got you your free pass out of the district should be released. Everyone knows you had something juicy on the administration. Maybe you could have some fun with it now.

Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

The teacher's union need to request her to step down, she didn't do much anyway.

Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

I agree that the injustice of this matters almost more than anything else that's happened (even with all the rotten things that keep happening in this district). It's got to be addressed with appropriate consequences all around. A private little slap on the hand is only going to drive home the point even further that race hate and bullying by those with authority is allowed here, that only kids will be punished, not adults. This latest is not the first time no matter what administrators will try and say. If they failed to document, then it's only further proof of their chronic cover-ups because it is common knowledge about this particular teacher, and about the way that administration typically deals with any problem, for that matter: Bury It! No. Not this time. And maybe not any more, either. Kids are being hurt in egregious ways, culturally and educationally. When is enough enough in Melrose?!

Letter from TBrow to parents May 2 Re: 8th grade Team A NB replacement

glad to see that the hateful remarks from Ted were removed! Thanks!
