and yes, Dr. P is going, and no, there is no posting for her multiple roles teaching math and science (Calculus and Physics, at multiple levels), though her departure has been known for some time

and yes, there are many more who will leave, some who won't disclose until just before school opens

and yes, Tuesday night the School Committee will vote to give the superintendent "a pot ($48,000) to give administrative raises"

and yes, guaranteed that CT will not disclose any valid reasons (or any reasons at all likely) for giving these raises other than that she believes the administrators are entitled to them (and the new contract for Marg Adams at the end of the meeting)

Re: The Exodus Begins Anew

Yesterday's listing included a new MHS Latin teacher. Where is it now? Since yesterday did they hire someone? And how come they can't keep anyone in this position? Or in the Social Worker positions, for that matter?

Re: The Exodus Begins Anew

Have heard about some of our best teachers getting crazy "evaluations" with ridiculously derogatory statements by the dept chairs/principals (who are across the board incompetent and shouldn't be evaluating tree stumps let alone teachers!).

With this kind of denigration going out to some of our best teachers, it's no wonder that any teacher with the ability to leave (some can't if they are just shy of getting enough years for pension, etc.) isn't on the next list of departures!

You start at the top with an illiterate power-hungry money-grubbing boss who thinks that threatening and intimidating whole bodies of teaching staffs from her first days here is how you motivate and inspire employees. Then you layer in a bunch of illiterate power-hungry money-grubbing dopes in the middle management who haven't a clue about the nature of real education Best Practices, nor do they really care. Give them the power to make the lives of the teachers absolutely miserable on a daily basis, with stupid edict after edict and no support, especially when it comes to dealing with students who are out of control, technology that is a total disgrace, buildings that are sometimes so hot or cold or with such poor air quality that it's any wonder anything can get done (including our precious "new" middle school with its 90+ degree rooms this time of year), and go from there. Add the "evaluations" that are insulting even when they are meant to be favorable, insulting in their astounding basic ignorance.

Salary has virtually NOTHING to do with why teachers in this district are trying to leave in droves, nor why good teachers from elsewhere won't even consider applying here! The Melrose Schools are an administrative disaster zone, and no amount of Override money will fix that. In fact it will only further embolden the monsters who are demanding the extra cash.

Re: The Exodus Begins Anew

Neither Margaret's "angels" nor Kristin's fake "apologies" can rescue this mess. You can almost miss Mr. "YouKnowYouKnow" after a few minutes of watching the ever-scornful Paymore. Would rather watch Barney (and shoot myself) than listen to anything Mr. 26% bloviates about, or for that matter DC, and now, sadly, JD as well. Even the great Fellini would have a difficult task trying to make anything other than a 60s horror flick (strings holding up the "monsters") out of this $hitshow.

Re: The Exodus Begins Anew

CT is not posting all of the openings she knows about until after the BOA votes to put the override on the ballot. Flagrant manipulation of the public opinion based in contemptuous and cynical beliefs of entitlement.

She couldn't care less about the damage to the school system or staff morale, and neither could the rest of her lousy team of mismanagers.

83.3 of Melrose teachers are in the Age 26-32 range as of the 2014-15 school year.
104.6 ages 33-40

68.7 over 40

256.6 Total

This reflects CT's practice of pushing out anyone over 40 so that she can hire the cheapest staff available, those she can control, with zero concern about the education of the students or the staff morale. Staff diversity hiring = NADA (exactly one individual of color on the entire professional staff).

Giving one more dollar to this "educational leader" is giving her more power to do more damage. Do the math. Look at the data. This district is in freefall, and it's on the citizens to do something about it.

Interesting- Looked at all the stats- Melrose has 55% of teachers in the over 40 category, and the state has 60% in the over 40 category. The big variance is in the age 49-56 group- with Melrose at 17%, and the state at 21%.
