What's Wrong with Our School Committee?

At Tuesday's school committee during the public session, school activist, Gerry Mroz again noted that our school handbook is in violation of state law in not allowing proper due process for students being considered for suspension or disciplinary action. The law has been on the books for 4 years and Mr. Mroz has brought this issue before the school committee countless times over the past 2 years - even in the recent revision of it - they did not correct the error - they consistently fail to correct the handbook and remain in violation of state law. The committee supposedly has had their handbook reviewed by their high-paid consultants, lawyers, and internal senior staff, yet it obviously violates state law. Over the past 4 years, the school system has not followed the law and law suits will probably be filed as a result.

Again on Tuesday, Mr, Mroz noted this oversight. Later during the meeting, Ms. Dugan finally asked Ms. Taymore if she would review the handbook and see if any changes are needed. Incredulously, she did not even mention why she should review the handbook again - as if not to admit there could be a legal oversight.

This issue alone should convince the public that our school committee is incompetent, vindictive, self-serving, and not looking out for the good of our students. To perpetuate this injustice towards our students only reinforces the need to replace our superintendent and the "old guard" of the school committee (Driscoll, Casatelli, Dugan)

Re: What's Wrong with Our School Committee?

You are absolutely correct, Myron. The fact that they are returning the handbook for further discussion but voted to approve it nonetheless, and failed to acknowledge a shred of concern that Mr. Mroz was speaking the truth points to the inherent dishonesty and malfeasance of this committee. The are only concerned about their images and really could not care less that their failures of due diligence are harming students and costing our community hugely.

It's hard to imagine what it will take to shake loose such a broken and corrupt system. The OCR case that was already adjudicated was such an indictment of the school committee/mayor, with a direct line of failed actions (corrupt fake investigation with a "result" that continued to cause harm not only to the one METCO student but in fact the whole school community), an indictment that should have led to a call for community outrage. Instead there is a rally about the red herring that the Red Raiders emblem has become, following an outrageously silly and corrupt engineering of that fake "award" for the disastrous superintendent.

Now this same school committee is perpetrating lies that they have put forward a "level service budget," when in fact it is anything but. They have allowed the crass and unsustainable action of eliminating three major department chair positions, meaning there are some major resignations/firings that have taken place they don't want us to know about, and they are going to do a sleight of hand, with a brazenly dishonest "reorg." Maybe at least the pushy drama parents will crash into the next SC meeting pleading for their hideously incompetent director (one of CT's prize hires) to stay employed (that would be ridiculous seeing as how she has been a gross waste of $150,000 and cost hugely in 3 more OCR cases, for starters); or maybe they could at least show up and demand that their hard-fought position be kept and that stupid "reorg" be tossed out with the rest of the trash that this committee continues to produce (like its deeply flawed handbooks and policy manual).

Maybe all those kindergarten mommies could wake up and start fighting for a qualified math chair to fix the damage that this last one has caused with her multiple changes of sequence and other disastrous actions. Instead, they are singing the tired rants and whines of Rob, Patrick, Margaret, Cyndy, Martha, Jessica, ad nauseum, and don't seem to understand that their little darlings have just had the academic rug totally pulled out from under them for the rest of their time in the Melrose Public Schools if these failed "plans" are allowed to proceed, with no math or history or arts department chairs, and instead a bunch more of incompetent "interventionists" or whatever the name du jour will be for the new hires that CT will bring in. (Note: She really couldn't care less what she does to this system because she's got more than a foot out of it already, quite obviously. Wake up Kindergarten Mommies!)

Re: What's Wrong with Our School Committee?

Just when some of us thought things really couldn't get much worse in this district, this brilliant SC unleashes all these other scorpions and viruses hidden in that lethal REORG chart (thanks for pointing us in that direction, ugh!), hoping no one looks too closely and is impressed with their usage of all those sophisticated-sounding words: "delta" (really? are they really that colossally stupid? Yup!), "intentional," (continual gross usage from JD) and on it goes. (Liz: please cut it out with the pretentious "true scientist" crap (are you really that insecure?), and thanks for your occasional good question and No vote.) When all else fails, they trot out their "Dr" A and "Dr" T (the new future "Global Languages/Arts" director, apparently, gawd help the children!) to talk about how their spectacular PD mentorship is teaching the little students how to be "real scientists and readers"! Please! Neither one of these charlatan administrators would know a real scientist if they were in an NIH lab, nor have they read many actual books, as is obvious from their abysmal use of the English language. Honestly, this scene is desperately awful. The "reduced delta" might be a comical code word (right up there with "Toshiba") if there were any ray of light from any corner, but there really isn't. Then again, maybe describing the alluvial sediment might be apt. Singing the Delta blues certainly won't happen in this land of the Red Raiders "tommyhawks"....

Re: What's Wrong with Our School Committee?

Using the term "derivatives" to describe this boondoggle is a pretty good analogy, since this nonsense has the exact same intent - pull the wool over the eyes of an unsuspecting consumer.

As to the original title of this string - "What's Wrong With Our School Committee?" - there is a one-word answer.

Everything.
