Agenda and Slide Deck for the June 11th School Space Discussion Just Posted

Just a quick note to say that they posted Taymore's presentation on the IQM2 Meeting Portal at:

Most people will not even be aware of it except those in the know - I went to the portal yesterday and it wasn't there. Spread the word!

Thank you! I cross posted this under the date, time & location thread.

A quick read shows that the SC is against every idea except for the 5th grade & 8th grade moves. All of the other options have the negatives highlighted while this option is presented in a positive light. Even the negatives are minimized.

Interesting about the modules is that they try to get negative with them but actually made the option sound better because the negatives aren't that bad.

Someone needs to ask about staffing increasing because there are more classrooms regardless of where they're located so highlighting staffing for certain options & not others isn't accurate. Principals & nurses can be shared too.

Certain selective DPW concerns are murky because some of the claims are fishy & I suspect will show as untrue when scrutinized.

Just a quick comment - the portable classrooms should be considered a real and viable option given that elementary populations are expected to fluctuate up and down over the next 5-6 years until they can decided on long term solutions.

Also, issue about having to have new principals if re-claiming the Beebe, Franklin, or the Ripley are bogus. Many school districts share principals and assistant principals between schools - my daughter was assistant principal at several schools for many years in a wealth school district.

This concept of having neighborhood elementary schools needs to be changed to allow more flexibility and to take advantage of financial savings. Gerry Mroz has been talking about this for years on how we have been wasting millions of dollars by delaying this change.

We need better leadership at the top and a more progressive school committee not married to old ideas and with no vision of the future.

Agree with MFD above. Also, there doesn't seem to be any mention of parking issues with regard to moving the 5th and 8th grades. That move will bring in significantly more teachers/paras, etc. -all will need a place to park.

Portable classrooms do provide the most flexibility without disrupting the complete ecosystem of the middle and high schools. Many districts have used them with success.

It's likely the administration could handle the implementation of portable classrooms. However the effort required to move two grades, realign teachers and curriculum, move the administrative offices, reconfigure classrooms will not be executed well.

Interestingly the proposal does not touch on any social-emotional implications of moving these two grades. That must not be an important consideration for the administration.

Agree

This should be the #1 consideration.. The fact that it is not mentioned is outrageous and proof that the SC, Mayor and MPS Administration are evil.
