Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

Another stellar ruinous decision by this Peter-Principle disaster of an administration: Laurie Dorr Greenwood has been appointed to chair Math and Science in the predicted exodus of former chair, Jon Morris to Tewksbury. This woman is well known as one openly displaying contemptuous attitudes towards students. She has zero experience with science and was not known for any prowess when it came to math either. Taymore's brilliant decision, voted on by the School Committee (and the self-proclaimed "education expert" Rob Dolan), to eliminate separate department chairs for such unimportant topics like math, science, history, foreign language, English, arts, merging them under the "leadership" of legitimately overextended if also incompetent (as in the case of KT, AS) department chairs was already foolish on its own "merits," if that term could even be used here. Promoting this teacher to chair Math and Science is Taymore and the School Committee giving the big middle finger to education in Melrose even more than they have already. Class Act!

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

Cyndy Paymore strike's again and again. Poor residents of Melrose she won't quit. You need to vote the whole school committee out of office this is getting worse. And the mayor should not sit on the SC board.

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

The idea that one teacher, however qualified, could successfully manage both the Science and Math departments is totally wrong-headed and reveals how little this administration--Cyndy Taymore, Rob Dolan, and the rest of the school committee--take seriously the real issues of education in Melrose. The same could be said about the other merged departments, equally foolish and harmful, but this is about just this one hire and the two departments this woman is now expected to lead. Even in a highly functioning school district, this choice would be unrealistic and harmful.

In Melrose it's much worse. Both of these departments have suffered some of the worst scores--MCAS, APs, SATs, etc.--in the entire region, and over many years. The few star teachers in Math have been driven out (and who are happily teaching and being appreciated elsewhere) by this same administration--Dr. Peterson, most notably--by harassing treatment for not adhering strictly to ignorant "rubrics," among other idiocies, instead focusing on teaching the actual content and having actual connections with the students on a day-to-day basis in reality.

Remember Mateus? Remember all those failing science scores? Remember all those below-state-level SAT scores (they aren't any better, despite 5 years of Taymore's regime).

In communicating with many recent MHS grads or their parents, it's easy to uncover just exactly how poor the MPS "strategies" have worked when rubber hit the road, when real life (as in College Acceptances, College Matriculations, College Drop-outs, Job-Hunting, etc.) has become all too real. No Guilfoil PR can put a spin on the anguish that real MPS students have been experiencing, the kind that was directly preventable with responsible actual Education, the kind that our tax dollars paid for (and thensome!--a whole other topic, given the fakery, and one might even say fraud, that passes for Melrose "budgets," tax structures, water/sewer rates, etc.). No lists of college acceptances (trumped up by MPS administrators and its disgusting PR agency) accurately accounts for all that is not being taught at all, let alone well, or tells the truth about what has been happening with MHS grads as a direct result of failed administrative and teaching practices. This latest administrative decision is the latest quite outrageous example of how little anyone is paying attention.

That's just scratching the surface. It's akin to a giant ponzi scheme, and they've been pulling all sorts of dishonest crap for years. Let me give you another example - police details. If the City collects $750,000.00 a year for these details, they immediately take 10% to "administer", or $75,000.00. Does anyone really believe it costs $75,000.00 a year to do that? That's outrageous, but it's not illegal. The City is supposed to pay into the unemployment fund a certain percentage for every one of those dollars collected. Not doing so is a violation of state and federal law. Are they doing that?

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

Majority of the time CT more than likely will choose a women over a man. This is proof again she is prejudice on who she hires.[Grandpa]

I would encourage parents and community members to go online and read the agenda packet.

men or women

The person in the position before the most recent hire was male. Also, there are far more females in the education/teaching profession than males, so the population pool is skewed towards females with respect to hiring in education.

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

As a parent whose had children taught by both Dr. Peterson and Greenwood in AP Calculus I can state, with knowledge, that Greenwood was an excellent AP Calculus teacher and the program didn't skip a beat when she took over the program for Peterson. Although it may have been the result of a more intelligent group of kids over the last couple of years the data shows more kids scored 4's and 5's on the AB exam and BC exam when Greenwood taught the class. Gripe all you want about the administration but don't tarnish the reputation of a good teacher with your lies.

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

This administration, like Trump, tarnishes itself routinely. This hire is wrong, regardless of number of students scoring higher on AP (which is more because there has been intense focus by this administration on teaching to the test, regardless of what it means to the overall education of the student). Whether one's particular child does well with a particular teacher is also not the point, and reveals more about the parent writing than about the point in question (district sycophants run rampant here and don't deserve much if any credibility). This teacher has zero administrative experience running a math department, let alone a science department as well, both departments in Melrose having had a decade of abysmal track record overall. This is Cyndy and SC going on the cheap to "promote from within", and in this case it's because the decision was ready-made (even before JM handed in his resignation) and because excellent candidates do not apply to this district anymore (for obvious reasons--unless you're one of the district cheerleaders who refuse to see or examine beyond what Rob and Cyndy want you to see!).

So glad Hilary didn't get in! Oh so happy!!!

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

It's amazing when you talk to the SC they blame the teachers. The SC has said that they won't like any principal and teachers do not like to be moved from their classrooms. This is the report that the parents are hearing.

Re: Another Disastrous Hire Promoted by CT to Take over Math/Science

I actually want to see another override attempt just to see it fail and cement in the minds of these knuckleheads that residents demand transparency from the current mayor and school administration when it comes to their tax dollars and how they are spent. It is like pulling teeth to get even the basics out of these folks.
