We were taught the new foxtrot at the weekend it was a little bit difficult for us but many of the other dancers who are more experienced thought it was nice to dance.

Well, you can tell that we are back with in person comps as the usual inventors are winning, even won the online entry probably because they danced it themselves. A certain winner from yesterday had said when dancing resumed that she wasn\'t teaching any of the new dances will that change now they have won?

It would be nice to know what the new dances are it would be even better if we had the HOP scripts. Competition must be running late perhaps there were lots of entries.

Teaching

Comments

After reading a few comments on here and on social media, it appears that some dance teachers have said we are not teaching any of the online dances, yet some have. If you are going to rereach a dance from 5 years ago why not teach a new dance, it baffles me
It\'s a shame as the online inventives have kept the attraction of a declining past time. Well done to the online inventors for keeping us interested in our past time. I for one would like to see more online inventives as we can\'t travel to the real life events

Well the first live comp is to be held today only 8 entries in each section, so quite a poor attendance. I wonder if the judges will choose the usual winners or maybe go for someone different? To me it would be better online as there would have been more entries.
Has everyone caught up with the online dances, our club only does one per month so we have done Zeneca which seems to be popular not only at our club but at others as well.

What dances would people like to see win at the competition this weekend, I\'m hoping for something not too complicated but would like to see a Two Step for a change we haven\'t had one for sometime.

Has everyone restarted their dancing? What about learning the new dances, I\'ve read that some clubs are not teaching any of the online winners unless they become popular, well how will they know if the don\'t teach any

Mod Gwen Cole Zeneca Tango / OT Yvonne Lawson Catesby Waltz. Excellent dances (for a change !). I have a feeling the Tango especially will be popular, and at all levels. There may even be some people out there teaching them now.

I see the winning OT Waltz was in the final at last year\'s BDC, exactly the same. Assuming I haven\'t missed some detail (but correct me if I have). I thought that under BDC rules this wasn\'t allowed. Same name, and music too. The only thing that was different was that some tables and occasional furniture were missing from one of the videos (it was like a spot the difference competition) but the organisers did at least go to the trouble of recording twice over. Still a nice Waltz indeed. On a related point, however, the same inventors also re-entered another dance from last years BDC in the Latin section of yesterday\'s comp with no discernible change. Assuming that this would have led to disqualification of that entry under BDC rules, then this whole section of the competition should not have been allowed to proceed owing to insufficient entries (that is my understanding, but, again, correct me if I\'m wrong). This kind of thing wouldn\'t have happened with Cecil Ruault. I remember at one Imperial inventive (I think it was 1983) only a single competitor turned up and they wouldn\'t run it. The inventor taught his dance to those present (I think it was a Gavotte by Barry & Julie Earnshaw), but it wasn\'t allowed to be granted prizewinner status, and because of additional BDC directives it wasn\'t allowed to be released through the script services either.

Does anyone think that we’ll get back to dancing now that we’ve got the latest strain of the virus.

I’ve been doing a bit of training with my dance partner for a few weeks in the hope that I will have improved my fitness level enough by the 21st so that I hopefully will be able to enjoy my return. Boy has it been tough.

Ket me know what you think.

A better link. This one broken down, with some instruction to boot. There is a series of four of these, one section. Just search on Google. Nicely danced too. These Aussies think of everything, possums.

I don\'t know what made me think of this. But below is a link to Alpha Waltz, a dance popular in Australia. I\'m told it was arranged by the Australian equivalent of the BDC during the post-war years to encourage new dancers to or back into the genre. What a great idea - something for our British Dance Masters to consider maybe. Oh, hang on wait a minute. At this rate, the Australians won\'t be wanting our dances as they already have their own.
