Does anyone think that we’ll get back to dancing now that we’ve got the latest strain of the virus.

I’ve been doing a bit of training with my dance partner for a few weeks in the hope that I will have improved my fitness level enough by the 21st so that I hopefully will be able to enjoy my return. Boy has it been tough.

Ket me know what you think.

Alpha Waltz

Comments

I don\'t know what made me think of this. But below is a link to Alpha Waltz, a dance popular in Australia. I\'m told it was arranged by the Australian equivalent of the BDC during the post-war years to encourage new dancers to or back into the genre. What a great idea - something for our British Dance Masters to consider maybe. Oh, hang on wait a minute. At this rate, the Australians won\'t be wanting our dances as they already have their own.

Inventive Dance Competitions

Comments

I am glad that inventives have continued online during the coronavirus pandemic and I suspect that online will be the only way forward for inventives given the likely hit following coronavirus. However, I do think it should be the associations running these events and NOT BBL (currently the associations are involved in name only, that much is clear). The associations should sell their own scripts and the money should go straight back into the system for the benefit of ALL pro’s. These comps have always been politicised to an extent and always will be, but it will all the more the case if BBL run them. Their current agenda is clearly to encourage new blood to boost the numbers, which is needed, but there are other ways of doing it – when it comes to selecting the dances, just pick the best dances – it’s the only way to ensure long-term interest and good entries to these events at a good standard. If this isn’t happening, people will soon catch on and the numbers will fall (probably happening already). Having individual business people running the whole inventive scene is a sure fire way to make sequence dancing commercialised and this is not a good thing. BBL originally came into being solely to distribute scripts and their role should remain as such, if indeed they are needed at all (and these days, where online publishing has become kids stuff, I’m not sure they are needed). I do hope the inventives continue in some form. My guess is they will continue on-line with BBL running them. I wonder how long it will be before they start charging to watch the videos (or linking them to BBL subscriptions) - not long I suspect. Enjoy them while you can.

Just wondering if BBL are showing the Ada Unsworth Inventive on YouTube in the way they\'ve done for the last two inventive comps, and also whether they are planning on running any more comps next year ?

Does anyone have any news of Jon Canning?
His FB page said his new CD was \'coming soon\' last October but has not been updated since and I get no response from the email addresses I have tried.

We had a go at the new Paso today and it reminded us of the last Paso. When we looked back we were surprised how long ago it was 2008 The Paso La Paz by Stephen and Helen, Different content it was popular.

Inventives.

Comments

I watched the Inventives last week and quite enjoyed them. I thought it was good to be able to see just the dances in rapid succession. I applaud the demonstrating couple to learn 89 dances and perform them nicely is no mean feet I hope they were well rewarded> There was a good entry and many new faces lets hope it continues. The format seemed to attract people who would or could not enter the normal inventive competitions ie lack of partners etc
We all miss dancing but there seems little hope of getting back to anything like normal soon so this format is better than nothing.

How are we going to continue dancing if couples living in different houses
want to dance together. It will be OK for married couples and live in partners but single people will not be able to. Has anyone thought of that?k

The current inventives

Comments

I do not see the point of running these online inventives. There is a distinct possibility that none of the dances will be used by the clubs. Any returning couples will need refreshment teaching of existing dances. If we try to teach all the new ones during the covid lockdown it will be too much and people will walk out.
I think we should encourage couples back with a gentle approach.
